Regarding this site, I have emailed Dr Michael Flynn (the contact), I presume colleagues of our very own Tom C and Gary L!

The sensors are located in passive radiation shields, however the shields themselves are located in full sun, which could have a small residual effect. The street level sensor is located in a sheltered south facing location, again probably slightly warmer than a more exposed or shaded location.

Sadly I'm not sure we can use this as a fully accurate city centre reading, but from what Michael has suggested it won't be far off.

Needless to say it's currently reporting 31.6C - taking a degree off I'd guess we are currently approaching 31C in the city, especially given Rostherne is currently 30C.

Really getting annoyed at this.

I shouldn't have to have about 8 tabs open just to know the live temperatures

I get the way the metoffice is funding and why they hold stuff back but this is ridiculous.

Just arrived in Portsmouth for the ferry. Can confirm it’s clear overhead with a few hazy mid level cloud formations over the channel.

That line of cloud from the French showers is making a beeline for Heathrow and west London within an hour. May mean the likes of Cambridge (or Faversham) have a better chance this afternoon.

The temp is in the group starting “10” eg “10337” is 33.7C.

35.1C won’t be an hourly reading, it will be the maximum so far from the automatic station and not publicly available.

Got a feeling today won't just be remembered for the heat. With this much energy in the atmosphere the storms later could be something else.

32c at Doncaster, 29c at LBA, awaiting other 12.00 readings that still haven't come in.

Leeds Uni 33.0c, could be a slight over read with this one, a bit like the Manchester one but will be a couple of degrees warmer than here.

Some patchy cloud developing.

There's a long stream of cloud starting around Biarritz, heading up the Biscay coast, through the Pays de la Loire into Normandy, streaming towards central southern England. This could well prevent the record being reached in the London area, but may well be reached somewhere else without the cloud.

https://en.sat24.com/en/fr

At home in south Berkshire my PWS has topped out at 33.3C after some high cloud moved in. Meanwhile records for Heat Index and Apparent Temperature (whatever that is) have been smashed, but my record high temperature of 33.6C from June 2017 still stands.

I'm in Stoke on Trent today where it's still 30C according to nearby PWSs.

I found a PWS near Heathrow that has already reached 40C, but is obviously overexposed.

Reached 33.1C at Leeds uni, local amateur stations reporting 32C. I certainly believe it, incredibly hot out there.

Some high cloud knocking around might interfere but hopefully not for long.

With 4 or 5 hours of solar input to come and assuming increased cloud cover doesn't scupper things (like it did a couple of Julys ago, which Jiries found very unacceptable), how annoying would it be if the highest temp ended up being 39.9 c, just 0.1 c short of the magic 40 c mark?
