There's been plenty of Flash, bang, wallop here in Daartrford since about 3 am this morn, the most intense part at 5am that gave a huge Bang, sent the dogs nuts! We had brief hail then too, which wasn't exactly small.till cracshing & banging here as I type! Lovely cool 20c too.

We took a direct fit from the Liverpool storm. Very short but intense, with thunder and lightning, but it was the hall!! An inch across, set all the car alarms off.

20mm of rain.

Love it. (Still terrified though lol)

Yes, had a severe storm early last night, with continuous lightning and rumbles, although no real close-up bangs and crashes. This gradually eased by midnight, with only sporadic rumbles but almost continuous lightning continued out over the sea, lasting for next 2 hours. Did not notice any further storms during the rest of the night.

Storm over Cromer again. Not much warning before an overhead strike and thunder. Didn’t half make me jump 🤣

Not just the UK, the final part of Stage 19 of Tour De France had to be cancelled due to severe hailstorm;

Clap of thunder out of nowhere here in Farnborough, unexpected tonight?

Signs of some convective elements behind the advancing warm front (N. Yorks, NE Eng & C. Scotland), these could turn thundery later. Also revised warnings from MetO highlight risk of isolated storms N. England and SW. Scotland tomorrow.

We don't have any thunder or lightning here in Edinburgh as I write, but torrential rain is currently falling here and it has also got rather dark for this time of the day at this time of the year. That in turn has resulted in 4.4 mm of rain being recorded in just a single hour at both Edinburgh Gogarbank and the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Normally, such downpours would be very localised, so it is very rare for both of these stations to be recording these high levels of rainfall from the same downpour even though they are fairly close to each other although this shows how much this particular area of very heavy rain is spread out over quite a large area as is shown in the latest rain radar map.

Furthermore, we are taught in our earliest most basic lessons on meteorology that the rain along a warm front isn't on average, as heavy as the rain along a cold front due to the much shallower slope which a warm front forms compared to the much steeper slope which we see with a cold front. This therefore means that the fact that these downpours are falling along what is actually a warm front which is in the process of slowly retreating south-westwards has be seen a very rare occurrence indeed, as is the direction in which this weather front is moving since we would normally expect most of our weather to be coming in from the west in this country.

I see that the Met Office have issued yet another yellow warning for thunderstorms for Wednesday stretching for the entire day from midnight until 11:59pm.

Yes, and the one for Tuesday has been extended westwards (and now includes my neck of the woods)

Yes quite an active few days in store, with that LP wandering NNE over the country with quite warm and humid air in situ. Shower risk extends over most of the UK as the low moves in, with bands of heavy showers and storms circulating around the low. Hail and lightning a hazzard as well as the heavy rainfall. Showers should also continue into evening hours and overnight.

Given the probable discrete nature and surface initiation of the showers/storms there should be some good sky watching/photo opportunities over the next few days, with CG lightning more probable.

Look forward to that. (Apart from the gales forecast for tomorrow as the garden will hate it.)
Might even see and hear the first electrical storm this year.

Thats quite the vortex out at sea heading towards us...

Im surprised someone like Q hasnt setup an analysis thread on it... it appears almost to be like a tropical storm with its mild (not warm) core, and thunderstorm encouraging synoptics... all bundled with a 40mph wind and 23 *c temps.

A weird one for our shores..

It's certainly slightly deeper than initially modelled at 12z, but is still destined to fill quite rapidly with the associated frontal decline as int moves NNE. Some unseasonably strong winds initially, but also strong winds will continue associated with the lines of heavy convection.

Somewhat concerning for NW England later tomorrow if these band coalesce into more prolonged precipitation.

Tomorrow has certainly caught my attention. Looking at the met forecast the winds direction will move right around the clock anti/clockwise through the course of the day/night. Not sure how thundery it will be though.

Potential for another 100mm of rain by the end of a Wednesday if we end up under prolonged downpours. That would give us at total of around 250mm in since last Tuesday night!!

Signs of convection breaking out in the clear slot over N. Mids and N. England now, strikes being recorded on storm between Bolton and Wigan. Should see more storms breaking out in this zone through the afternoon.

Been sunny all morning here but some black clouds gathering now. Just had a sharp shower of giant raindrops that stopped as suddenly as it started.  No thunder heard yet but some not far away showing up on lightning map.
