A more "sturdier" linear line has just arrived here with blustery rain and stronger winds. Also can smell the brine in the air as the wind continue to doth blow in from the Channel.

Pretty bumpy around here as well - but we are on the North Hampshire Downs.  I think those that are calling this a non event are being a bit "IMBY" - maybe down to local topography.

Odium (local to me)  has reached 65 MPH  (and  within the range that was forecasted). - that's not  run of the mill   for an inland Southern  site.  The other factor is the duration of the event.

Hell is going by at the moment, massive wind gusts and huge rainfall, dogs are going mad, never seen it so bad as it is right now.

Edit, hurricane stuff

Don't know how accurate this thing is.  It registered 99 mph which is it's maximum reading.  Taken from one of sites in Stoke onTrent

The rain looks like being just as big of an issue. Horrendous pictures coming through across the country.

The sting of this system might be this final squall in a few hours.

Apparently a BA flight today has made it from New York to Heathrow in 4hr 56 min, a new record for non supersonic flight, due to the strength of the jet stream. Ground speed (but not air speed) was actually marginally supersonic!

Judging by the damage my roof has already sustained it is certainly not a once a year storm in these parts!!!

Calming down a tad now but that squall was some serious stuff, without doubt there will be a lot of damage to property and trees.

Quite windy this morning but little rain until a squall came through from the north about 13.15hrs - then gutters were overflowing and heavy rain with hail slamming against the windows. No lightning or thunder, sadly. Radar shows another squall line on the way. It's turning a bit grey now...

Squall line moving SE is looking seriously impressive. This could be the big one.

Anyone near that currently?

Plane takes four attempts to land at Gatwick

A passenger on a flight from Florida said the plane he was on needed four attempts to land at Gatwick Airport.

Keith McDowall, 90, from Islington in London, told the PA news agency: "I've never had anything quite like it. I admit I was scared.

"It (the plane) was veering around and it kept shaking."

Bless him  good job Ian was not on plane
