I honestly think I have it (and partly because I'm part of a transmission chain to a confirmed case)

GF has come down with more typical symptoms. Cough (although intermittent, mostly only in the morning), fever, tiredness dizzyness e.c.t.

I've only got gastrointestinal symptoms, although she had it too (although worse than me).

Otherwise I feel absolutely fine.

Is very wierd though, because if we do have COVID then maybe a slightly different strain? The original wuhan strain did not have gastrointestinal symptoms in 95%+ of cases. Wheras for us they are primary symptoms.

You'll be fine and then probably immune to it. It'd be funny though if after all the extreme measures you had taken, you were the first person here to get it. I think Beast had predicted it!

Italy closed its 'borders' with China in late Jan, but still got the biggest epidemic (to date). What else should have they done at the time? Close all their borders with everyone?

I agree that European countries (including the UK) should probably have put travel restrictions to/from Italy in February, but we (and they) didn't even screen passengers coming from Italy!

While I cannot claim to be any kind of an expert on this thing, I wouldn't mind betting that CNY was one of the reasons as to why this virus has spread like wildfire over much of the world.

I can't help but feel that a great many governments, especially many in Europe including the UK, have been caught completely off-guard by this disease.

You seem to admire Singapore and yet you have explicitly said that you will not obey the Govt's requested restriction on visiting pubs.

You are being selfish, IMO. I go to the pub here (a tiny local) once a week. I love it. It pains me to say it but I will heed the request. And so should you.

But since Italy is in Schengen, it was pointless them stopping travel from China in isolation - tourists from China could easily fly to Vienna or Geneva and wander around at will in Schengenland without any checks until and unless they fell ill. One of the favourites for Chinese tourists, was to fly to Vienna or Prague and then do the grand tour through to Italy.

It only takes a moments lapse to transfer a hand that has been resting on a table to your face.  None of us are perfect.  I'm currently being very careful at work with hand washing (etc).  but a couple of times today I lapsed and  a hand that  had  been on stair rails and  tables  was on my face.   I have no idea which of my work colleges may be incubating this bloody thing or even  carrying it around asymptomatically.  A week or so on and the likelihood of my infrequent lapses  causing me to be infected will have increased many fold.  This is why the vulnerable and old are being to  to isolate - this thing is bloody infectious  and most of us not  self quarantining are  going to get it - all we can do is try and make sure we don't all get it at once !

The CMO in the press conference stated that the government really needs to test people to see if they have had COVID-19 and that such tests are now being produced. Without knowing who had it without knowing it, we are in the dark.
