I understand that but logistically how feasible is that? In some cases yes but how many hundreds of thousands (millions?) of people are there who fall into those vulnerable categories? I suspect that for many of them avoiding contact with either school children or school staff will be almost impossible.
Schools are a place where illness spreads incredibly quickly. We are at the stage where the virus is spreading through the country and in effect we are allowing virus factories full of super spreaders to remain open.

She has announced that she is self isolating for 12 weeks and will see us all in June. In theory she should be able to do that as her husband will work from home (as per govt advice) and can deal with the kids, he can also sleep in the spare room. She will still see her kids and interact with them but she will keep her distance.
Seeing as the biggest requirement for ICUs comes from the elderly with an underlying condition then I don't see how they can't self isolate. They should never come into contact with school children if they follow govt advice.

She does get it as do most of us on here. It's quite simple really, we just need vulnerable groups to self isolate.

No point testing people who don't need hospitalisation, provided they self isolate.
As the CMO said last night - what is really required is a test to see who has had the virus - that will be happening before long.

Sounds awful. Several accounts pointing to the fatigue as being absolutely crippling - fatigue and breathlessness meaning even a few words leaves sufferers utterly drained and out of breath.

Are you going to keep your children isolated at home once the school closes? If not, then it won't work.....
Let's carry on as normal as some people are saying this morning. A government has the responsibility to be clear. Obviously many people do not think this is the case.
Lack of clear school policy has 'created rising sense of panic'
The teachers' union NASUWT said the lack of "clear and definitive" direction from the government over what schools should do during the virus outbreak has "created a rising sense of panic".
Acting general secretary Chris Keates said: "The NASUWT has to date been advising our members in the context of the advice issued by governments and administrations and public health bodies across the UK.
"However, the lack of clear information with regard to the steps to protect teachers, headteachers and other staff working in schools in the context of commentators constantly referring to the threats posed by children carrying COVID-19 is causing chaos and confusion and placing intolerable pressure on all staff in schools and their families."
The key will be the death rate and hospitalisation levels.
Defending the vulnerable is key and I think that keeping schools open does mean that transmission amongst the young continues and should increase herd immunity whatever they might claim. It's a game of risk because they know already that young people almost always show mild symptoms but the gamble is that they are then relying on them avoiding contact with the vulnerable.

And yes re. your other post - I saw stats yesterday but can't find them now - in the UK (or London, can't remember), 4.9% of 40-49 yos need hospitalisation. Can't remember what % of those need ICU.
If I had children, would I keep them at home through this? Yes, absolutely. You don't seem to understand the magnitude of the threat and why other countries are basically shutting down everything. That will happen here - once Johnson realises that he is going to be responsible for a disaster. You haven't grasped if from the start.
