Bloody hell, Moomin. That is terrible. I really hope your friend pulls through this.

Moomin I am terribly sorry to hear that. I hope he pulls through.

Lionel, I think your holiday is unlikely to go ahead. I think that things will take a lot longer to get back to normal. While things will peak here an in other places in next 60 days. I think there is going to be a lot of nerves throughout the world.

Yes and I am coming around to that view too. Which, quite frankly, scares me.

Then again, Moomin's post puts things in perspective. I hope your friend pulls through, Moomin.

I’m beginning to think that the end of the tunnel is a year away, although hopefully some controls will be eased down over time. For me it’s next autumn/winter in the northern hemisphere that’s the next big risk.

To be honest, I had managed to convince myself that the lockdown would bring results and that we might be getting back to normal in a few weeks time. While I still think that the lockdown will transform the situation, I now fear that normal will be a lot slower coming back. My milestone will be whether I can take my holiday in Italy in July. It's a milestone for me not just for selfish reasons. If it's safe to holiday in Italy then the world is back to normal. The world economy will remain banjaxed unless tourism can get back up and running. Does anyone believe that my family holiday in Italy will go ahead?

I don’t know what game the BBC are playing here,be it Tim Martin yesterday and now this piece on the modelling (which just happens to come the day after a major lockdown), but if they have a grudge against HMG this is not the time to run with it. Twitter is already full of ‘why are we locked down, they have the numbers wrong’ from today’s piece. I have read it and to be frank it is an opinion piece at most, but to be perfectly honest the only thing people will get from it is the top line of ‘are the numbers right’. BBC stop playing games, this not a game (look at moomins post).

All Sainsbury's supermarkets will be opening from 8am to 8pm as of Monday - Sainsbury's locals and petrol stations will continue to open as normal.

Monday, Wednesday and Friday all supermarkets will be opening between 8am and 9am for the elderly, disabled, vulnerable, NHS workers and social care workers.

This is terrifying that he is young and no underlying conditions.  Could the virus be mutating to affect the young?

The SK situation does show that containment is just that. Its slows it down but you cant remain locked down for long periods until the vaccine is ready

We either lock down for a year or let it rip.

Locking down for a year would probably kill many more than the virus itself in terms of shattered lived and mental breakdown

Govt paying 80% of wages is still not enough to cover the cost of living and what about the self employed, and those on zero hours will only get paid for the limited hours they work. Its not enough Richie Rich

I'm curious to know what the supermarkets define as "vulnerable" and how and if they will check jt.
At least it will be mild!

This whole horrific nightmare that is unfolding has become very real for me today.

I learned this  morning that a very close friend of mine has contracted Covid19 while working in Germany last week.

He developed symptoms earlier this week and has deteriorated rapidly and is now in intensive care in a coma and a very critical condition.

This guy is a fantastic man, newly married, and he is 35 with no underlying health conditions that I am aware of.

This is REAL guys. This is just the start. I am very very upset today. Until I heard this news this morning, I thought, this won't affect me. I thought, this is something that afflicts the elderly and infirm.

Absolutely not. My friend was fit and healthy and young. He is now fighting for his life, and the next 24 hours is critical. I am praying for him, I feel so helpless. His wife cannot visit him, today is his birthday.

Please, everyone on TWO, pray for my friend. Positive thoughts are all I have right now. I pray that my friend pulls through.

I'm a bit confused , not hard I know but I have just heard on the radio that Sainsburys will have an hour for the elderly between 08:00 and 09:00 M W F but aren't the elderly isolating??

Also just been to get fuel and a bus FULL of people on going into town , why the hell aren't bus companies limiting the amount of people they are carrying ?

Really sorry to hear your friend is struggling, Moomin. To hear he was apparently fit and healthy before contracting the virus makes it all the more frightening. I sincerely hope he pulls through.

Resilience is necessary but we've effectively engineered it out of modern commerce.

The UK was already headed for painful isolation but, on it's own. Now I guess, everyone is in the same boat.
