Thanks guys. He was working in Germany last week and picked it up there. He has been struck down so quickly and the next 24 hours are absolutely critical for him. He would be celebrating his birthday today. I am praying like I've never prayed before that he pulls through.

And for poorer countries who cant afford to print money to bail out, its not sustainable. We would have a mass collapse of modern civilisation and return to bartering and highwayman robbing people

All for a virus that will only kill 1% of the population anyway. Madness.

Plus, as I thought you'd realised by now, these measures are about trying to stop the NHS collapsing under the weight of severe cases, which are running anywhere between 5% and 20% depending on which stats you study.

I'm afraid this is a reality check about our way of life and our, in the developed world, cocoon that we take for granted that mostly spares us from nasty viruses.

Still does not alter the fact the bus company have a duty of care - or doesn't social gathering count on a bus or is there a time limit that social gathering covers??????????

And they are actually genuine questions

Personally I would avoid all bus travel but I am in the fortunate position that I can.

Moomin - whatever the outcome with your friend (and obviously we all hope he recovers quickly) these are the stories the news ought to be highlighting right now. At the moment most young people seem to think they are safe from this disease, that it is only affecting the old and infirm. Which is why we are seeing the “carry on regardless attitude”.

I have decided against joining my friends for our Sunday MTB ride tomorrow. Even though the plan was to maintain a distance from each other I don’t think it is worth the risk. I will go for a solo ride well away from others.

South Africa is now looking pretty worrying - 240 cases and rising fast. This will be a lot different to Europe and Asia because 19% of adults in South Africa are HIV+ and have been affected by the rapid rise in diseases like tuberculosis that have flourished as a result. Furthermore South Africa is too poor to be able to contain and manage the spread, and the developed world has its hands too full to be able to assist. Certainly one to watch...

This whole horrific nightmare that is unfolding has become very real for me today.

I learned this  morning that a very close friend of mine has contracted Covid19 while working in Germany last week.

He developed symptoms earlier this week and has deteriorated rapidly and is now in intensive care in a coma and a very critical condition.

This guy is a fantastic man, newly married, and he is 35 with no underlying health conditions that I am aware of.

This is REAL guys. This is just the start. I am very very upset today. Until I heard this news this morning, I thought, this won't affect me. I thought, this is something that afflicts the elderly and infirm.

Absolutely not. My friend was fit and healthy and young. He is now fighting for his life, and the next 24 hours is critical. I am praying for him, I feel so helpless. His wife cannot visit him, today is his birthday.

Please, everyone on TWO, pray for my friend. Positive thoughts are all I have right now. I pray that my friend pulls through.

It would be great if they were right and that a lot of people are already immune. But the spread we are seeing now makes it look almost certain to me that cases where essentially zero before early Feb.
