Schools: they are not ‘half closed’. The message is clear enough. The problem is people not taking personal responsibility and trying to avoid being inconvenienced.

Thankfully I have a car and I'm keeping my fingers crossed I can work outside at the closed site where we have lots of gardening and maintenance work that needs doing.

What you and a few others are saying is that the government has to treat everyone like children and put rules in place that deal with the most stupid, ignorant, selfish behaviour.

Your first point: if restaurants are shut then hotels should have been restricting meals to residents. If restaurants are shut people should realise that means no eating out.  Two groups at fault here, not the government.

These measures can’t work unless people take personal responsibility. There aren’t enough police or army personnel to enforce rules that people are determined to flout.

TBH this blame game is starting to annoy me.

I would like to see the government publishing more information on the "underlying health conditions" of those who have died. The data of course would be anonymised. Until they do I will have a  suspicion they are including things like "stiff back" and "chronic tinnitus".

As always there will be more responsible people and there are more selfish people, it happens everywhere and always. (it even happened here during the Blitz). It's the state that is making it possible for the more selfish to continue doing what they are doing.

It is the role of the state to have laws and enforce them in order to protect the first group from the second!

This is not a theoretical concept, just take a look at what is happening in countries where the rule of law is weak and the selfish and the irresponsible have more of a free reign!

Why is it such a difficult concept to grasp? Why so many other western democracies (including big US states) have acted much more swiftly and didn't wait for 'everyone to take responsibility for themselves.'

This is not how societies and countries are run!

My generation is a total waste of space. They cry constantly about non issues and then prove themselves to be utterly worthless in a crisis when literally all you have to do is nothing to make it all go away.

Good! You can't blame people for going to hotel restaurants if they are legally open and you can't blame their management for doing this. It's the fault of the fcking government.

European governments are not treating their citizens like children, they say this is a public health emergency and they order them to change their lifestyles.

Any views on why the Government is drafting new primary legislation rather than invoking the provisions of the Civil Contingencies Act?

I do feel some comments on here are politically motivated.
How much more does Johnson have to do or say to get people to act accordingly. There is a blame game going on here.
It seems we live in a society where for some if its not written down with instructions, they don't know what to do. I hear instances of people calling 999 for the police saying my seven won't do as his told.
It's sad but I fear there are a good 5%-10% of the population who are basically as thick as s**t.
Probably society's fault for spoonfeeding and mollycoddling them in the first place.

Only cares about money also on from my last post one cleaner also works for home instead (carer for elderly)she is a diamond and looks after older people. She is a single parent and has been told she must clean this evening as cleaning agency has been paid utter madness, told her to text head and tell her no way.

It worries me as this is going on up and down uk at the moment.

The PM HAS TO SPELL this out , bang his bloody fist down and say enough is enough we are shutting up shop , until that happens forget it , you are asking the impossible , and if you are really expecting people to make a common sense decision then you are out of touch.

Retail shops are all open again this morning , why wouldn't people go shopping.
