As I'm working the walk thing is no problem. Go out for an hours walk after dark. No one about anywhere. I'll see if there are any coppers about tonight.

I had looked on the internet before I went out and couldn't find anything forbidding me to drive to a location to exercise alone.

My understanding it was OK to go for an hours drive and also to have up to an hours walk (as long as social distancing is observed), but not to combine the two ?

My understanding was you could drive to a place, exercise and drive home again. When someone asked on a Q&A on TV could they just drive for a while, not get out and drive home again, this wasn't allowed.

I would say the second option was 'safer', but the two should be related. There should be one answer for both, not two different ones.

I am also waiting for the Americans to call the this Covid One Niner.

Has anyone noticed how incredibly clear blue the sky is at the moment? The reduction in air traffic must be part of it.

Yes I was Pulled over yesterday after I unlocked School I was in my car was asked where I was going I said that I only part time and was going over my elderly mum to  assist care and help he did then say anybody can say that so I said I could prove it he said like what?

I have my dwp official care letter in my glove box he quickly looked at checked my name with my credit card then said that’s absolutely fine on you way.

 

to my mind, it is a simple case of the police picking on a soft target (although of course to be fair, the Police have an impossible job to do). So they pick on an easy "win" and hope that the associated publicity will "encourage" others... Just like stopping someone doing 25 in a 20 MPH zone during daytime hourse , and fining them, whilst joy riders and petrol heads cause mayhem late at night and are generally free to carry on doing so until someone gets killed.

indeed... commented as much to my wife...a simply glorious spring day out there... working from home, I am getting easily distracted!

 

That's bizarre. I drove to Manchester and back yesterday morning, diverting to a supermarket to grab some things for my mum & dad then dropping them off there before returning home. Then went back out later to the petrol station and a different supermarket for us.

Perhaps they're just blocking known beauty spots or tourist traps.

I saw that too. I've just been for a walk with my two children (over near Weirdly). There were a few cyclists about and the odd car but we didn't see a soul on the walk, just lots of butterflies and birds. It was beautiful.

We were treated to the noise of them doing burn-outs and doughnuts on a local road at about 2am Sunday morning.

It's the low dewpoint air from the east, as much as anything. Never many contrails around here (amazingly), but the sky has that winter blue look to it.

Johnson exhorts us to 'protect the NHS'. But it seems that the Tories have and are doing the sum of f4ck all to protect the NHS and its staff. 

We have just heard the following from a friend who is being treated for a rare and aggressive form of cancer:

"I had to make a very difficult decision this week. As most of my friends know I am being treated with chemotherapy for cancer. Last Monday I had my usual blood test in the chemo unit at the QEQM hospital in Margate. I was surprised, given the speed that Covid-19 is spreading, that none of the staff had been issued with adequate protection against the virus, like masks and gowns. I asked if I could use a mask and the nurse said they couldn’t get hold of any. The result of the test showed my neutrophils (white blood cells) were too low for me to safely have my treatment, so it was cancelled. Since then I have been very careful and self-isolating at home and having no visitors as I realise that I am particularly vulnerable.
My rescheduled appointment was for this Friday but I’ve reluctantly had to cancel this as being treated by staff who have not been tested for C-19, and haven’t been issued with masks, is too great a risk. There is no way the nurse can keep a safe distance from me. People can carry the virus, and infect others, despite showing no symptoms themselves.
Why, when this most serious crisis has been known about since January, are vital NHS workers STILL waiting for PPE (personal protective equipment)? It’s a disgrace that such dedicated staff are being let down and put at risk. A friend who works there told me that every day he is frightened of catching the virus because of the lack of PPE.
If enough NHS workers are infected operations will be cancelled, and life-saving treatment will be put on hold.
NHS workers deserve so much more, and shouldn’t be made to feel like “cannon fodder” by doing their best to keep us all alive.
Be sensible and take all possible precautions against getting and spreading this virus. Good luck everyone, especially my friends who still have to go to work."

My new job is working for Cycling UK so I am obviously keen to get to the bottom of this situation regarding whether driving to a place to take a walk or bike ride is allowable. I have mentioned these cases to the others in our comms team and will seek clarification.

As people have pointed out, driving to a more remote location is lower risk. I drive about a mile to where I go, true I could just run that mile but don't because I think it's safer not to (even at 5am).
