I don’t like to stamp on people’s hopes and desperately hope we have turned a corner....But I urge caution. We have some way to go. Volume of cases in the last four days have gotten higher - sadly this means that over the next 7-10 days it’s likely that could translate into more deaths.

I only say this because diagnosis and the death are not immediate and often can be 10-14 days. This is why you see ICUs become saturated

People criticise our government for valid reasons including:

1) The failure to order social distancing in time to save many lives. The dicking around with herd immunity when anybody with half a brain could see it would condemn many thousands to premature death

2) The absolute disgrace over PPE for NHS staff (see my post earlier in the day about a friend of ours cancelling her chemo because staff at QEQM in Margate have not been issued with PPE. This is ongoing and is unforgivable

We know that you will defend a Tory govt no matter what, Richard. But the plain truth is that while Johnson exhorts us to 'protect the NHS' he and his party have spent the better part of 40 years undermining it.

A friend of my sister has it.

She caught it  after  doing the rounds of London pubs and clubs and public transport about 3 weeks ago.  Spent 2 hours in  a car with my sis and her other half on the 16th March.  and developed symptoms a day or so later. Sis hasn't developed any symptoms  yet but is  in  self isolation.  My sisters friend started of with relativity mild symptoms (cough but no fever) but has now just been carted off to hospital on oxygen and intravenous    antibiotics - it doesn't  look at all good    She is circa 60 with no known underlying health issues.

It seems to be if you can shake this ****** thing off   after a few days you are OK, if your body can't kick it out quickly  the risks escalate !

Well, just to pour a little cold water on the proceedings with some anecdotal evidence from my county, Worcestershire. Spoke to my daughter at lunchtime today and she told me that around a week ago, there were 10 hospitalised cases in Worcestershire, whilst today, Worcestershire Royal Hospital now has eight wards full of corona virus patients - given that each ward has around 20 beds, that makes for @ 160 patients in that one hospital requiring critical care.

I do fear the high volumes of cases we have seen in the past four days won’t translate well in the next two weeks. The evidence you shared there is a case in point.

On the pathology side, what you describe does seem to fit the pattern - either you kick this thing after about a week and recover, or things slide. An Italian woman was talking about her father in this regards last week - similar pattern to your sister's friend.

Yes we have spoken about this before genetics may be playing a part we can’t help how we are made some more affected than others.

Donald Trump is starting to become unhinged even more so they normal.

This is dangerous. He is playing to his base, who ironically have t been impacted hard as they tend to live in more sparsely populated areas.

Anybody heard from Beast (Geoff) lately? He was always a frequent poster.

Meanwhile, ECM wants to give us an April snowstorm next week - since it is a week away, it could well be wrong. Now, I love snow as much as any of us, but it really isn't what we want at the moment.

Evan Davis from the BBC is convinced he had it in January - we need those antibody test kits so we can find out who really has had it.
