I fear 700+ deaths will be announced today if we're now getting towards the peak

 

I don't think we are near the peak yet, it's more likely to be around 10-15 April.

 

We also risk getting used to these high numbers of deaths, they sound just like abstract numbers but behind each one of them, there is a human story. 

If we're getting back on track with France (as was stated a couple of days ago by one of the health experts) it should be a lot lower than 700. He/she will have had access to more information and data than we do. Therefore, it suggests the very high counts in the UK during the last couple of days may in part be down to administrative issues. We should be looking at 350 to 450 today.

Agreed, yesterday we saw the highest number of new cases, there is nothing I can see that suggests this wont continue to be the case over the next few days.

Deaths will therefore likely peak mid April. I also don't see a sudden and sharp decline in reported deaths. I think we could see deaths still in the 300s even by late April

If not today, I'd say it's a certainty in the next few days.

We'll have done well if we fail to see 1,000 deaths a day at any point.

(EDIT: And do bear in mind that we see 600,000 or so deaths a year anyway. Covid-19 will be pressing the "fast forward" button on many of these.)

I wouldn't attempt any linear extrapolation of our number of deaths as the reporting is inconsistent and we could again have lower figures on some days. The trend is clear though and we haven't reached our peak yet.

Is there any information anywhere showing hospitalisations per country based on population count?

Sounds like the only really reliable Anti Body test is coming from Porton Down and will not be available en masse this month. Unfortunately many of the anti body test,s are not accurate enough. You need a very low percentage of false positives otherwise it will be worse than useless.

The BBC reporter on the news last night tested himself with one manufactured in Northern Ireland and he tested positive, much to his own surprise.

Much as we may wish to get the antibody testing show on the road, it is right that all the products are validated for accuracy before they are purchased by HMG - but that of course delays the process.
