I think Q is using the statistics for his assumption not anything else. If the PM is indeed now on a ventilator statistically the chances te around 50/50. Without further detail it is really hard to know or comment further.

Presumably if he is on a ventilator it is because he has developed pneumonia. The fact that he was put on oxygen last night suggests his oxygen levels were lower than normal and therefore his lungs were not working properly even last night - and we know that pneumonia from Covid-19 can develop very quickly.

As you say, the evidence for some time now has indicated only a 50/50 survival rate if your lungs are failing.

I hope to God he's in the fortunate 50% but repairing the lung damage takes a long time, as I understand it, so if/when he pulls through I can't see him coping with the rigours and stresses of leading the country.

Just to be clear - the source is a journalist in the lobby. That doesn't mean he is right, it may just be a conflation of the news about oxygen being administered. I sincerely hope the information is inaccurate.

 I hope he's fortunate too. The only "good" thing to come from this is the possibility it will lead idiots who think it is a disease only for old people and those with "underlying health conditions" to start worrying more about their own situations. It has been clear for weeks that although some factors change the odds considerably whether we as individuals live or die after contracting corona virus is a lottery.

There is a big difference between hospital admission + oxygen which equates to high survival vs ventilator which is the coin flip.

But I'm not sure you'd even expect him to be on a ventilator at this point. On average it takes around 3 days from hospital admission. It can, of course, be quicker than that. Although if it is quicker I don't think that's a good sign at all.

Sunlight is main natural source of vitamin D, but it is accepted it doesn't provide enough for the body's daily requirement. 

The value/effectiveness of Vitamin supplements is not fully proven, but further/continued research in this area may prove fruitful ?

Unless you got a mild one first and then a more virulent one next time? Or are they closely related enough that the immune system is better prepared the second time?

Re sunlight post above, I actually managed to get slightly sunburnt this weekend while spending much of the time out in the garden. Should have topped up my Vitamin D levels!

Not always it can be used because of greatly increased co2 levels in blood which can make you feel very ill and confused very strict guidelines about ventilator use as can actually induce pneumonia  if the breathing rate gets to about 28 times a minute, then this is a signal that ventilation may be needed that was the guidelines with my boy anyway.
