It was 33.7C at 3pm at Gosport fleetland which is fairly close to (just across the harbour) to north portsmouth which has managed 35C. I'm waiting for the 4pm hourly update.. it's an official met station to.. I think the hottest spot will be a southern but probably east of here towards Brighton way.

I have found the missing figure for 1 July 1976. The reason why it has not appeared in the Torro summary is because the reading was incorrectly logged in the Met Office's own monthly weather summary for July 1976 as occurring on 2 July instead of 1 July. So even the Met Office make mistakes, although they are clearly aware of it!

The date record for 1 July should be correctly stated as 35.0C at North Heath in West Sussex in 1976. I tracked this down in the Met Office archives.

Just look at all those stations in the lists. Must be less than half that many nowadays. Tiny villages covered all across the country. 14 across E and W Sussex alone!

Back on topic and 32.8C at Heathrow is the actual reading at 4pm. Not sure if Gatwick has a Met station, but I don't think so. There used to be one nearby at Charlwood but that may be gone too. Another area of the country underrepresented in the Met network.

Wiggonholt also reached 34.0C at 3pm but dipped again.

Herstmonceux 33.5.

With Gosport back down again it looks odds on that 34.5 will be the official max.

30.9c here now after a peak of 33.0c.

Despite being a degree cooler it has felt far more uncomfortable.

Yesterdays dewpoints were 12-14c. Today they've been 17-19c

Never even reached 30C here although Farnborough was quite a bit warmer at 31.4. Probably an altitude thing.

Gatwick was 34C at 4pm and 5pm, so Charlwood could have been in contention but it seems to have vanished from the Met network.

My guess they will update it later and with somewhere like Wiggonholt or Herstmonceux sneaking it... but somewhere in that Surrey east/west Sussex area.

Herstmonceux 33.6C at 5pm, was 33.5 at 4pm but could have spiked up in between.

Wiggonholt also 33.7, up from 33.0 at 4pm.

Sign of a good heatwave when 34.5c is disappointing.

This heatwave is bringing back memories of 2003.

17 years ago. I had to walk around in a space suite for a music video. The heat was unbearable. I think this was the Wednesday of that Heatwave.

Big contrast here to yesterday. Quite a breeze kicked in this afternoon and kept temperatures down to around 28C. I'm expecting heat and humidity to increase again tomorrow as the wind swings around from NE to ESE. Upper air temperatures are still very high and are likely to stay as such for a couple more days at least.

Yes slightly disappointing today but Sunday to Tuesday look good for 35c + somewhere. Maybe even Wednesday as well.

6pm synops out. Herstmonceux also reached 34.5C. The other hottest ones don’t appear on the daily synop roundup.

Edit: Met Office tweet appears to confirm a three-way tie with Wiggonholt and Frittenden also on 34.5.

A bit of a let-down today but some places still exceeded 34!
Looking mush better for tomorrow for a 35/36 day. Or maybe a little more?

Where does 34.5 sit on the all time list? We seem to feel let down by something that was exceptional a few years back.

Here in Edinburgh, the last few days have been warm, but nowhere near as hot as what they have been down south which as is just as well, because those sorts of temperatures which they are getting down there would just be far too hot for me to be able to handle.

It is during yesterday that our temperatures peaked here in Edinburgh but even then, the maximum temperature at Edinburgh Gogarbank was no higher than 22.6°C. That was enough for yesterday to go down as our warmest day of this month so, but was nowhere enough to give us our hottest day of this year, or even our hottest day of this summer.

In addition to that, today was cooler than yesterday with a maximum temperature of just 21.0°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank.

The north of Edinburgh, usually always missing out on snow events which occur not just within the rest of Scotland or the UK, but also within the rest of Edinburgh.
