Stunning ensembles this morning. I wonder whether June could end up going down as an all time classic for the right reasons? Remarkeable weather during the last few months.

16-dayer temps upgraded since yesterday and looking hot and dry for England in week 2, though still on the cool and damp side for NW Scotland.

GFS - Area of HP from Azores to Scandinavia a feature throughout the forecast period. Brushes with Atlantic LP in NW Scotland/N Ireland up to Tue 8th, and suggestions of something thundery trying to approach S England from Sat 12th onwards.

GEFS - dip in temps to norm Sat 5th, then a steady rise in most (but not all, and more variation in the N) runs to about 5C above norm by Fri 18th. Dry, fewer instances of showery activity than yesterday.

ECM agrees with GFS

Very little activity in the jetstream around Britain until a brief brush on Sat 12th sets the scene for something unusually strong for this time of year Wed 16th, waving across N England and Scotland, and as it fades on Sat 19th, there's a second blast lining up off Newfoundland. Not reflected in the 16-day charts yet which continue to show pleasantly warm and dry weather for the UK throughout.

GFS -ridge of HP from Azores building and continuing to deflectLPs to NW until withdrawing back to Azores Wed 16th; some influence from LP near Iceland that day and rather more from one Sat 19th 990mb Rockall

GEFS - consistent with above, temps at norm today rising slowly to 2-3 C above over the next two weeks (but watch a couple of vey cold outliers incl control that have appeared at end of run). Mainly dry (except those outliers)

ECM agrees until Sat 12th when LP moves up from Spain to affect the S

[The unusual strength of the jet around the 16th makes me wonder whether it and associated breakdown of HP is a reliable forecast - I wouldn't be surprised to see it disappear from tomorrow's charts]

While we are all being focused on the long term dry theme, it does look properly wet tomorrow for us Kent and Sussex convocation where anything between 10 mm to 30 mm are expected before the day is out, all thanks to a straddling weather front. Will be good for the lawn, though.

The domain "wxmaps.org" has expired.

Anyone know what's behind this? Temporary glitch or have they given up?

Summer is over  - well, a bit of a possible downgrade in ten days' time

Jetstream forecast hasn't given up as I hoped yesterday, but is rather augmented. Not much action in the coming week, but a strong coherent jet appears N of Scotland Sat 12th and moves S-wards to be across N England Tue 15th. It then encourages a period of N-ly winds by forming a loop with the UK on the 'wrong' side and by Sun 20th there is a strong jet running N_S across all UK on the trailing edge of the loop.

GFS - current benign and generally HP re-establishes over the weekend after some LP affecting the edges of UK to NW and SE, lasting to Tue 15th when LP moves across N England to sit over Scandinavia with cool N-lies lasting until some recovery on Sun 20th

GEFS - a period of generally rising temps in most runs to Mon 14th when the majority show a downgrade, some quickly and some slowly, and mean is down to or a little below norm from Thu 17th, More rain about than yesterday but in small amounts and not focused on any particular date.

ECM - only goes up to Mon 14th but at that time has strengthened the HP (1035mb N Ireland) and doesn't look as if the breakdown suggested by GFS is imminent

It will be interesting to see what happens over the next few days for the mid June period. Signs of a cool unsettled change in GFS, although the Op run is very much at the lower end at that time. Will ECM agree as it approaches the same time period? Or will ECM hold onto settled weather only to flip about 4 days before we reach it !? laughing
