I have nothing against Jersey and I am not trying to discount it as a high temperature, but it would be crazy to include it in the list of UK maxima, because Jersey isn't part of the UK. You might as well include readings from Gibraltar or the British Virgin Islands! (I appreciate that the Channel Islands don't have exactly the same status as those others).

Revised temperatures show Sheffield has recorded its warmest night on record, the night from Monday into Tuesday didn't drop below 20.5c.

The Weston Park Weather Station has now broken 2 heat records since 2019 both by day and night.

I guess geographically the Channel Islands aren't part of the British Isles.

Plus Jersey has its own Met Office.

Incidentally 31.8C wasn't the hottest temperature on the island yesterday: it was actually 33.2C at Maison St Louis: https://twitter.com/Jersey_Met/status/1546896254201888775

I have just come across this report from STV (the Scottish Equivalent of ITV) News about those really high temperatures from the night before last when we came fairly close to recording a tropical night here in Edinburgh.

According to that report, Aboyne in Aberdeenshire had its warmest July night on record with an overnight minimum temperature of 18.2°C on that night. That is a location which is a lot further north than where I am here in Edinburgh, and the previous July record up there was only 16.8°C as set as recently as 2018, so that record was smashed by quite a lot.

Here in Edinburgh, I have been mentioning quite a lot that the night before last might have been our warmest night on record here in Edinburgh. It certainly was warmer here than any other night which I know of according to all of the data which I have for here.

As it turns out, that wasn't our actual warmest night on record here in Edinburgh so if anyone knows when that actually happened, what station in Edinburgh this happened at and what that highest ever minimum temperature actually was, I would be grateful if he/she could post that info here as that will help to keep my own records straight as well.

However, the night before last night was confirmed as our warmest July night on record here in Edinburgh and as expected (since that was where the highest temperature of that night was recorded), it was at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh where this record was set. According to my own data, the lowest hourly temperature reading on that night was 18.9°C.

That was all the data which I have and of course, the lowest hourly temperature reading is always going to either the same as or higher than the actual minimum temperature which is the more important statistic here.

It is therefore, the 06z raw SYNOP/BUFR data which will officially confirms that actual minimum temperature when it comes in. However, it also turns out that this wasn't actually all that much lower than the lowest hourly reading in this case.

From that raw data at 06:00 yesterday morning, the actual overnight minimum temperature at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh on the night before last night was 18.8°C and that is what in the end, confirmed that particular night as being our warmest July night on record here in Edinburgh.

EDIT

I've just realised that I didn't fully read that report properly because on further inspection, I read that the actual all time record for our highest ever minimum temperature here in Edinburgh was 18.9°C as set in August 2006, presumably at the botanic gardens again although the report doesn't actually confirm that.

This means that we weren't actually all that far away from getting our warmest night on record the other night there and if we get a hot August this year, that record could well be beaten then.

The north of Edinburgh, usually always missing out on snow events which occur not just within the rest of Scotland or the UK, but also within the rest of Edinburgh.

Add my local weather station, Farnborough, to the list of stations that have gone offline. No readings since 0900Z yesterday.

It's the extreme south coastal stations leading the way today. Herstmonceux 28.2C at noon. Thorney Island 26.8 and Shoreham 26.4 the runners up.

Not sure if it is up-to-date.

Can only comment fairly locally but Linton-on-ooze doesn't appear to be operational anymore, i haven't seen any data for it and i think it has closed as an air base. Also never hear anything from Cawood which at 6m asl could be a contender for warmest spot at times.

The link I posted in the other thread about the 2019 heatwave has a map showing the various stations that were reporting then, but they are not named. As well as the ones we see hourly data for there are others that never seem to come up. It also mentions, eg a Sheffield weather station which I didn't even know existed.

https://www.metoffice.gov.uk/binaries/content/assets/metofficegovuk/pdf/weather/learn-about/uk-past-events/interesting/2019/2019_007_july_heatwave.pdf

There's a big gap in the network across the Fens to the north of Cambridge. I wonder if a suitably placed station there could have broken 39C in that event?

Meanwhile in Spain, the 2 Seville locations already at 42C at 2pm. Given Seville's longitude and (wrong) timezone 2pm is actually not even midday there. The real heat usually peaks around 5pm locally.

Nothing special in France yet. 35C in a few places.

29.5C was recently showing at Solent weather station. Unfortunately it only shows current realtime data so can't say what the max had been.

Currently here it's 29.2C but fluctuating quite a bit between 28/29.
