What's interesting about these amber and red warnings which are going to be in place for extreme heat is that the fact that there is no corresponding yellow warning for that anywhere.
These warnings are after all, being issued under the very same warning system (in addition to the heatwave warning system which currently only covers England and Wales) as those warnings which are commonly issued for other weather types such as snow, rain or wind.
Under that system, you don't usually get any amber or red warnings being issued without any yellow warnings for that same weather type being issued somewhere (usually over a larger area once those amber or red warnings are in place) and so, this is the first time that I can remember this actually happening.
Given that the amber warning area has now been extended up to the Scottish Borders though, I would therefore have expected Edinburgh to be within any yellow warning for that if there was one.
The north of Edinburgh, usually always missing out on snow events which occur not just within the rest of Scotland or the UK, but also within the rest of Edinburgh.
