It's 17C outside at the moment but it really feels quite fresh. Fresh enough for goosebumps!

The average July night low here is 15C so we might end up with that tonight.

Lunatic paper reviewers on Sky News this AM

1. Basically saying it’s summer, it was hot a few years ago.

2. Also downplaying the impact on people living in upper floor flats.

3. It’s Scaremongering.

4. 1976 was hotter.

5. Complaining that maps used to have sunshine symbols and made the weather happier.

I’m sick of it, and it’s frankly dangerous that Sky news give airtime to these people.

Oh that explains it, Editor of Daily Star and Spiked online

Left for work at 5am this morning and it was just 8 degrees. Crazy to think in a couple of days at that time it may be nearer 28 degrees!

Edinburgh isn't even in any of the official Met Office warnings either, but that particular run shows us getting around 33°C to 34°C here with the Scottish Borders getting up to possibly 35°C to 37°C.

Meanwhile, both the Met Office and the BBC have upgraded their temperature forecasts for Hawick on Tuesday to 31°C.

As for Tuesday night, I've a refundable booking for the Holiday Inn down the road from the school. It's a dive, but at least they have a/c. Hopefully I won't need it, but just in case...

Worrying, TBH, as they usually underestimate due to having nearby sea-based grid points in the mix.

In our place in France there is a large cellar which can serve as a heatwave escape room when it’s really hot. Unfortunately we don’t have that at home but our basement kitchen is the closest equivalent.

We have a caravan in our vineyard as well, and as it’s in a valley it gets cool at night. 7.6C last night. But can’t stay there with the whole family plus our Ukrainian guest. So it’s just management of window openings and closings over the next 2 days. Down to 22C indoors this morning.

It’s funny hearing the heatwave being picked up by the general public after 2 weeks of us gawping at 40C model runs. In the cafe this morning the customer in front of me joking about how we Brits panic as soon as we get a bit of warm weather or 2 inches of snow. You know the usual British weather joke. Little do they know. I think they think the heatwave is what we have now. Notice that in the papers too: pictures of people “cooling off in the heatwave” on the beach and in parks.
