Ill be following that closely, thanks, given my son will be baking at St Martin’s Plain on his CCF camp.

Arome 06z takes todays maxes down from 32 to 31C. Not sure why, as it’s pretty sunny with just a bit of high cloud and the 850s are similar.

27C at 11am on the latest readings, Arome says 28C by midday so let’s see.

I've noticed Charlwood seems to be an early frontrunner on hot days and then falls away in the afternoon.

It wouldn't matter. We could get to 50C and there would still be those who deny, imagine it's all some kind of a conspiracy or think it's all just natural variations in the climate. What this might do is to convince the 'waverers', those who still have their doubts as to the reality of the situation. The tin-foil hat brigade you can do nothing about and should hopefully become so isolated as to be completely irrelevant.

But upper air is hottest in the SW today so would expect to see some early leadership from the West Country and Wessex stations.

What difference would it make though? Even if you somehow convinced everyone in the UK and we went completely carbon neutral in 10 years, if China, India, Russia and the US continue blasting out emissions, it's pointless. Not saying we shouldn't try and contribute, but I'm just raising the point that the UK is a drop in the sea metaphorically.

And yes, if a 50°C heat wave in Canada and devastating wildfires in Australia, Portugal and the SW US won't convince them, then nothing will. I don't know why people get all worked up about it, to be honest.

By Wednesday morning there will be nobody left in doubt. We will have to go through some pain for a few days to achieve it.

Edit - yes Brian re your last post, I have seen the meme shared comparing the previous forecasts with happy looking suns with the modern red temperature field maps. Not really a fair comparison because I remember the TV forecasts 30 years ago showing the orange and red colours for temperatures on occasion too!

LNER have cancelled all trains between York/Leeds/Lincoln to London Kings Cross on Tuesday due to extreme heat.

12 noon highest readings appear to be 28.4C at Santon Downham and Pershore. Lots of other 28C rounded figures across the south and up into the Midlands.

Proper heat is starting to arrive in SW France, 36C+ in Cazaux now.

I've just seen that the Met Office amber warning for Monday and Tuesday has now been extended across Edinburgh to as far north as the cities of Perth and Dundee, and passes just to the east of Stirlng and Glasgow which both remain outside that area for now.

Nevertheless, this means that I will now be instead that area even here in Edinburgh which wasn't the case beforehand.

The north of Edinburgh, usually always missing out on snow events which occur not just within the rest of Scotland or the UK, but also within the rest of Edinburgh.
