Went outside into a very shady spot, was about 40.5C according to a mechanical thermometer.

Very wierd with strong dry winds.

Can believe it though, felt nothing like it before.

Disbelief to be honest that the record has been beaten by such a significant amount.
You would expect maybe smaller amounts but over 1.5c just unreal
The size of the record breaking area also very significant.
As Q has said even with a strong breeze very bizarre.

As Warren mentioned temp around here has been climbing again after a dip earlier. Now 38.9c (not 100% accurate as gets affected by the sun but not far off I imagine).

Meteorologist Paul Hudson’s personal station in Leeds. Yesterday it recorded the same maximum temperature as the official Bramham station so is fairly accurate, but of course it could be over-reading today anyway.

Keeps just nudging up at the vineyard. Finally hit 39.0C at 4.11pm.

It's on an East facing slope and typically peaks early, so this is incredible.

Are you doing nothing to try to keep the temperature inside cooler??

Thankfully we have aircon upstairs so can get periodic respite.

Its still edging up. 36.8c. There can be no frustration expressed today about the 'what could have been'.

It aligned perfectly.

Our high was 38.6c, cannot believe it .
There was a peak then the cooler air arrived immediately, maybe if this replicates some stations will get their max just before the change in air masses.
Bramham 39.5c , could it hit 40c.

33.4c now, dropped 5c in a few minutes.

Looking forward to tomorrow! It'll be cold in comparison.

Are you a scientist? I am. You are right in that scientists are always testing existing theories hence the continuous development. But at any given point we act and accept the evidence based facts as the "best" truth, at that point in time. And in this point of time it is not "a matter of opinion" as you intimated. It is an evidence based fact. If in the future there is new evidence for something different that will become the new "truth". But there isn't any at the moment.

Edinburgh Airport has just equalled its own station record from yesterday by recording another temperature of 31°C.

To get that on just the one day during yesterday was amazing enough as it was, but to have now got that on two back to back successive days in this manner is just unbelievable.

Langdon Bay record has gone, showing 36.4c at 1600. Other official Kent stations at Goudhurst, Frittenden and East Malling at or very near 38c. Brogdale has got to be at least 40c.
