Woke up this morning to a complete cover of snow. Looks like it is close to 2 inches on most surfaces.

There seems to be a casual assumption that if you get caught by a heavy snowfall, the emergency services will be along within the hour to supply food, water, and then pull you out.

Overnight snow has given 6cm here and it is a veritable winter wonderland out there at the moment. There's very little wind so every tree is coated. There does appear to be a very slight thaw though.

Yes agree those comments by those drivers are silly ^^^^^

To be fair to these travellers though - the MetO forecast was completely wrong for the Lake District yesterday and made no mention at all for any disruptive snow (no snow at all for that matter) - I think the forecast quoted earlier in the thread suggested some light wintry showers?

Yes an amber warning was issued but came way too late in the day.

Even as a weather geek I would have happily travelled to the Lakes yesterday and thought nothing of it.

Not blaming the Met Office by the way - I don’t think this streamer event was picked up by many of the weather models either.

I'm surprised this has ended up as marginal as it has done. Many places struggled to get above freezing at all yesterday, so you'd have thought it would ave looked quite good for everyone.

All a bit 'thawy' 😒

Was hoping the skies would have cleared last night, with temps falling and the snow freezing. But the cloud persisted - what I presume Jiries would deem 'illegal clouds': ones that don't drop any snow.

As a result, the snow that, last night was fluffy, is now more crystally and lost about a third of its already meagre depth.

I've still made a modest snow pile from clearing the drive & pavement. Let's see how long that lasts.

I don’t think our snow will last long.  We now have fog and light rain.  But that’s OK because we’ve been sledging and built a snowman in the park this morning and built another snowman on the garden this afternoon.  We have a happy little granddaughter!  😀

I went for a drive to Lytham this morning (near Blackpool) and it looks like I was right on the edge of it. There was pretty much nothing a few miles in the direction of Chorley and Preston. There was obviously nothing at Lytham, but it made for a good walk on the beach for an hour or two.

Coming home, I hit rain near Preston and it became more sleety near home.

Now nasty cp;d rain and fog killed the snow off so this cold spell another poor one.  Most cold spells lately had been very poor as it always bone dry sunny then nasty mild fog then last minute snowfall that didn't give me enough time as by the time I put my winter gear on, the snow gone already.

I'm currently following the Hibs game which is being played at the moment in NE Edinburgh and according to the BBC's text commentary for that, it's just raining there.

As yet, nothing is happening here in NW Edinburgh but if it's only raining in the NE of the city, that doesn't bode well for me if we do get anything as I am further west from where that game is being played, but at a similar altitude from MSL and at a similar distance from the coast.
