It is very concerning, since it’s happening at such a rate and much quicker than expected.
I remember endless arguments in the old Climate Forum about the risks of the predictions being an underestimate and being told it was alarmist nonsense, and here we are. The oceans have been absorbing a lot of heat - as well as a lot of CO2.
What is this, plus the strong El Niño, going to do to global temperatures this year? My guess was comfortably- or perhaps uncomfortably- above 1.5c. Since 2023 has come out within a whisker of +1.5 we could be up around +1.55 even.
