Is it just me or is this quite concerning? Almost literally off the charts.

I remember endless arguments in the old Climate Forum about the risks of the predictions being an underestimate and being told it was alarmist nonsense, and here we are.  The oceans have been absorbing a lot of heat - as well as a lot of CO2.

What is this, plus the strong El Niño, going to do to global temperatures this year?  My guess was comfortably- or perhaps uncomfortably- above 1.5c. Since 2023 has come out within a whisker of +1.5 we could be up around +1.55 even.

The ocean temperatures are definitely contributing to the wet weather over east. We also are likely to have a negative IOD developing over the next few months. Long range weather forecasting can be a mugs game at the best of times, but particularly at the moment.

Yes, it's getting crazy.

And we're already seeing record heatwaves and record precipitation all around the globe.   It's only going to intensify as the year goes on.
