Looks like today's forecast maximums for here could be right after all as the temperatures are refusing to rise any further and have now dropped back to around 19°C with more in the way of cloud.🤢

The wind has picked up a bit as well although there is still the odd sunny interval at times even with that.

It therefore looks as though you've beaten me today as regards to today's maximums and this shows the difference it makes when Edinburgh doesn't get a cooling wind from off the North Sea, especially when there is a little bit of a  Foehn Effect from the Pentland Hills.

Weather Underground might help with the Fairford mystery - no stations in the heaviest area (of course), but two close to it reporting 57mm and 69mm respectively. I would expect there would be local hotspots with much more than that, the way these things work!

We've lost the sea breeze, and by gum you can feel it... the MetO raw looks like being right today, unfortunately. The return of the westerlies hasn't brought the dewpoint down either, it's stifling outside and rapidly becoming so indoors too.

Sunny, 27.4, dew 20.2, the high so far being 27.6.

I've just realised we've only had 4mm of rain in the last two and a half weeks, which explains some of the cracks now appearing in the back garden!

Incidentally the heat's even getting to the Met Office! Very unusual to see wording like this for an overnight forecast...

This Evening and Tonight:
A fine evening with plenty of late sunshine followed by largely clear skies overnight. Becoming cloudier in the west around dawn, with perhaps the odd spot of rain. A very warm and perhaps uncomfortable night. Minimum temperature 15 °C.

...and it was indeed an utterly cack night for sleeping.

29C indoors when I went to bed (22 in my bedroom); after 3 hours I gave up and turned off the a/c, then it became an inferno and I still couldn't sleep. 25C upstairs this morning and 24C downstairs.

Outside it's mostly clear, calm (of course) and very warm: 17.1, dew 15.8, the low so far being 16.9. Yesterday's high was 27.8.

The cold front (and lower dewpoints) can't come soon enough!

A bright and sunny start to today here in Hawick but much cooler than of late at around 12°C.

Last night's overnight minimums were down to 9.0°C at Charterhall in the Scottish Borders though only down to 10.1°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank.

It turned cloudy this morning, but the wait for rain goes on. I was hoping that was the cold front, but nope - the cloud's now breaking up, the sun's out, it's 23.7 and the dewpoint remains a stifling 19.4.
