I can't remember such a benign Autumn. No wind, still mild. Sea temp. is currently 15.6C.

What a real kick in the nads this high pressure is! We've been crying out for a nice settled spell all spring and summer and nothing happens, yet we get one now in late autumn when it just brings nothing but slate grey skies and drizzle. This really is the worst time of year for such a block.

Regionally, we have just had an above average wet October, 245% the long term average rainfall for September, and 153% the LTA over the past 6 months! And to boot we havn't had any notable spells of weather all year, so i'll take calm and dry in whatever form it comes.

The last extended dry and calm period i can remember was prior to the 15month monsoon that started in July 2023.

I was worried that this dry, quiet period would be a gloomfest but I have to say that so far it has been better than I expected. A bit of drizzle early in the week but with a few bits of sun here and there and today has been glorious after early fog cleared

A similar total here - it's been steel-grey cloud for the rest of the time and barely a puff of wind. The washing didn't dry at all on the line, so it's in front of the dehumidifier now!

My hunch is a stormy cylconic winter, perhaps commencing around mid December.

Just hope that the above average wet October and September will mean that this dry spell will continue to last for most of the Winter.

It's been generally dull, unsettled and wet since beginning of July 2023. There was a dry spell in June and latter part of May, but the troubles really began in March 2023 following a major SSW event.

The BBC insisting on sticking to its mild theme for her when the reality is that the thick cloud which they have forecast has kept it cool and dismal with it hanging  around 11.4C all afternoon.

Another dark, cloudy, wet morning here. Overnight light rain and still drizzle now. How are the weather presenters missing these embedded fronts on the fax charts that are clearly giving this rain? They keep banging on about dry weather and High pressure and mild but the only bit that is right is the HP! 12.4C here right now, 11.00 am.

Good job we no longer rely on coal for heating, electricity and transportation as smog would be a serious issue by now.

It been pollution for days now with near tan alike dirty skies as if was cloud should be white grey one.  Heating on often than before due to no sun but was much warmer during zonal sunny slots so once this unwelcome HP out of the way.  I rely on sunny slots in between pressure as soon as HP move in that it cloudy and rain return again as it happens all the time.  HP is no longer good anymore and it winter snow killer and summer killer now.

Forecast been a joke lately. Been promising a southerly change for days now including midnight forecast. But nope - still a NW drift this morning, still thick cloud and 11.2C.

Well its got even worse. Can't remember ever feeling this depressed before. Obviously not just the weather but I mean 9.5C and constant drizzle. All forecasters of everything are on a different planet at the moment!

Fairweather if you think it's bad where you are then spare a thought for Wales - the whole country has had zero hours of sunshine so far in November! Mind you Tiree is leading the gloomy field with just 2.7hrs in the last fortnight!

I can’t remember when we last saw the sun, or had a breath of wind but we could actually see clouds yesterday afternoon for a change.  That is, the sky was various shades of grey for a while, instead of just a solid block of grey.  We’ve had a few misty early mornings and one day with a bit of drizzle but a few days when I’ve put washing on the line and despite it hanging limply, it has actually dried.

 Surprisingly, the trees are looking quite spectacular in their autumn dress but I suspect one gust of wind and they’ll be bare.  But the dry and mild weather makes walking in the woods very pleasant.  Despite the lack of sun, we’re still generating a small amount of solar power and the heating is hardly needed, so our fuel bills aren’t affected much yet.

It's been grey and gloomy here also, for much of the last week, some misty mornings, with the exception of yesterday which was misty pretty much all day. The trees on the green have lovely autumn colour as well as all around the village, however one of them is now pretty bare with the others not far behind and the birch trees in the neighbours gardens are lovely and golden and it's very pretty when there is a bit of breeze with the leaves fluttering to the ground, past the garden end, living room window. A very romanticised autumn for me. It's a huge difference from a town version of autumn and as you can probably tell I am loving it. Truly a country gal at heart 😊
We've only put the heating on for a couple of hours in the late afternoon to blast the chill out of the rooms, and that's been sufficient and if it's much cooler we've had a fire lit from around 7pm in the living room, which will burn for a couple of hours and that's been lovely too. Far from depressed here!
