This morning car boot sales was supposed to be a big one but it turned out average one only because many went out to the beaches, swimming pools, parks or other places to enjoy the hot sunshine.

Heathrow 29.8C at 4pm, might just scrape 30C again but generally a degree lower today. Car thermometer was reading between 28.5C and 30.5C up the M3 on the way home.

PS Answering my own slightly geeky question about the Shard, in theory there is a line of sight from there to Southampton, 72 miles away, but I doubt you'd ever see it without a telescope! Feels hotter here today and with quite a lot of cloud around, now s-l-o-w-l-y clearing from the west.

I felt a few spots of rain at around 4pm

The cloud responsible has built up nicely but doesn't appear to be producing any notable rain yet.

The temperature is at 29.7°C so another close run on 30°C here.

Taking a few 'situational' readings using a portable instrument, I measured 33.4°C sitting in the shade at a table (device stood upright on table with minimal contact to surface) and it reached 40°C in the sun, at which point it stopped climbing quite abruptly - probably the limit of the device.

I think this room of mine is probably in the high-20's at the moment.

Got home and at 16:52 it was 29.6C in the well ventilated, deep & fully shaded alley entrance.

Encountered some real hot spots on my cycle home from southsea area, most notably around the dock yard area and old tricorn site 🙂

Maximum of 21.7C today so the sixth warmest day this year.  Last summer, only three days exceeded this temperature.  I'm loving Summer 2013!!

The temperatures in the low to mid 20s can be fantastic.  As a weather enthusiast, I'd love to see the 30C+ that is being experienced in parts of England this weekend but if it stayed like this all summer I'd be perfectly happy.

Sounds like this could be a couple of heat related deaths:

After a week on holiday on the East Coast experiencing pleasant, but hardly hot temperatures, the past few days here, and its promised continuation, have been something not experienced since 2006....  Much as I'm not someone who hankers for heatwaves, I'm so glad we appear to have got out of the summertime rut we've experienced since then.... I think I've already used more suncream on the kids that I have in all the summers combined since they've been alive! (The oldest is 5.)

Looks like today's max was 31.0C at Bournemouth Hurn.

I found this site earlier which is very quick to give the day's max, and you can click through for historic hourly data for every station. Very useful!

Looking at the Bournemouth data there must have been quite a spike as the highest hourly reading was 30.1C right before the 6pm cutoff!

It was very hot here today in Bournemouth. No sea breeze at all again all day. Went down to the beach about 6pm and it was still very busy and still warm. Looking forward to work tomorrow just so I can sit in my air conditioned office. I thought it was going to be a degree cooler today, but I was wrong. Hopefully the weather will be dry and sunny from next weekend for my week off! Currently 27.5c in my South facing flat. Another night with the fan on.

13.1C here outside now so cooling off nicely out there thanks to having large fields surrounding us, but inside the house is still very warm unfortunately. But it's supposed to be dull tomorrow morning here so that may help things cool off inside at least for a short while.
