Good to see the power of British moaning in full flowUserPostedImage In the end, we have no control over what we get so moaning is purely therapy I guessUserPostedImage As for the heat and its effects, its obviously harder to work outside in those conditions but its also difficult in rain. My wife would agree with this as she is a gardener. My job means I work in an office building which has aircon during the day so day shifts are no issue. Sleeping in the heat is not that difficult if you invest in a wall fan and take other precautions to keep your bedroom cool.....and the advice about cooling your wrists is spot onUserPostedImage

I remained feeling cool for about 5 minutes or so after. More effective then an ice lolly just not as tasty lol.

Another great day, high of 26.1c, currently 21.7c. Sleeping has been fine during this spell as the temperature is usually always been below 20c by 10pm, so with all the windows wide open the house cools nicely. Still waiting for a 30c in Yorkshire but looks cooler after tomorrow with an easterly influence.

It seems Hampton, SW London reached 32.2C today.. so 90F breached, and getting close to last year. And besides, it's the longevity that is important. This month is far hotter for longer than any spell last year.

Maxed at 33.1c on my Vue here in Hampton Hill.

Edit: Just found it on the Met Office latest bit... Woo for Hampton breaking the UK record so far. There's a lot of resevoirs near that site too so the local maxima around Hampton (where I live) would probably have been a touch higher too.

I, like most, enjoy variety and extremes, but the present conditions have now become boring (apart from the scantily clad girls) so its time for a change. Lets have some wind, rain, fog, snow (some hope) anything for a change. Not many agree with me it seems.

Haway the lads

quite agree with you dougie . grafting in this heat is truly tiring. roll on the wind and rain. actually as a matter of interest how many of you that claim to love the heat do physical work outside all day?

That said, I do commute to work by bike a decent distance so I do work up an honest sweat every day in this weather. TBH I would rather be working outside in the heat than in this fridge-like office. I've been cracking through the gardening at the weekends - the hotter the better. What puts me off getting out to do physical work is when it is cold, wet or windy. You can always cool off, but warming up is often harder, I find.

In response to the other question from bluder, I do gas auditing all day everyday. That means in and out of flats and houses, up and down stairs and elevators all day. Many of these top floor flats can be incredibly hot. I just get on with it. No moaning.

The species of the one in my photo are an imported spider that happen to be the uk's largest*. They become more active during warmer weather and typically are found on the exterior of buildings.

* there is a cave spider that might be of similiar size I think.

Back on topic another warm night.

Can you simply not sit in a cool bath ot have a cool shower and then go and sit in the shade. Even on the warmest days there is just enough breeze around to speed up the cooling process ?
