Severe thunderstorm ongoing with tropical rain and bone shaking thunder.
No wind whatsoever!
I assume these are the cells currently exploding over the midlands, as viewed just now from the field behind my house in South Cambs.
Can see massive towers shooting up to our south and getting ever closer, fingers crossed...
Nice picture Rob! I'm cautiously excited about the possibility of storms here tomorrow night. Fingers crossed!
Duane's only about 25 miles to my South and we have nothing here, not even distant thunder but I can see some cloud in the South though.
Storm easing but the sky is electric with constant lighting all around even though the rain is easing for now.
What a storm!
Very humid and sticky!
The cell entering Nottingham now is very impressive indeed - ppn rates in excess of 50mm/hr and frequent sferics.
17mms of rain from that storm.
Nottingham is about to get smashed!
Struggling to see how I managed to avoid all that earlier on. Looking at the radar you would have thought we had a period of torrential rain and vivid lightning - in actual fact we got zilch - not a drop of rain, no lightning and just a few distant rumbles !
Is that it? Still feels pretty muggy.
Looking towards SW from Sheffield. Taken at 21.28 BST this evening... This one developed pretty quickly... The main "Leicestershire" cell is in the distance on the left of the picture.
