The gust front went through 10 mins ago with a sudden sustained Southerly breeze of 15 mph for about 3 minutes before falling calm again.

This is a 30 flashes a minute job.

Occasional bursts of hail getting smashed against the windows in the occasional 35 mph gusts

By the holy mother of God, this is being the most bad-assed storm I have ever seen!!!

Gale force gust, torrential rain, hail and continuous back to back sheet lightning and it's still raging.

Whhhhoooooaaa, just seen a HUGE thunderbolt only literally yards away. In all the excitement I've forgotten to take photos but the rain would get in the way.

Left home at 1 am to head for work at Heathrow. Saw a couple of distant flashes to my east from the first cell which crossed London. As I was on my way I noticed distant flickers from a new cell which appeared from south of Croydon. When I arrived in Bedfont to be told my shift had been cancelled I followed the second cell across London. As I was going home to Hatfield up the A1 the distant lightning was lighting up the northern sky as the first cell seamed to intensify. Saw some intense C+G strikes over London. The lightning was yellow.. Still waiting for rain. Temp still 21.5'c....

MONSTROUS lightning and thunder here, no idea of rain rate. probably well into the hundreds at times. all members of the house woken up during last half n hour. Dog petrified. another massive and violent clap of thunder, made me shake and jump even whilst writing this, like something out of the beginning of a werewolf horror story! Staggering storm, this. Literally, gobsmacking 

Is this a seperate storm that I'm viewing to my North & North West towards London & Essex?
Whatever im viewing has an impressive light display !! 😃

On going monster storm raging. Torrential rain, strobing lightning and cracking eruptions of thunder that then rolls round the canyon like valley walls. Wow!!

Huge storms blowing up over Sussex in the last 10- heading NNE- the A21 line from say clackett lane all the way down to brighton-

 

Could be as bad as the Ashford squall line

I'm too wired up now! It's still crackling away but slowly easing off.

This is all I could manage from the safety of a bathroom window (too wet and dangerous to go out and find a better location). But to give an idea of the intensity of the strike rate, those are three separate strikes while the camera was open for 15 seconds (and it was hand held with the camera resting on a window ledge).



This itch has been well and truly scratched. So, it seems that we CAN do storms like this after all.

I was awoken by a very impressive line of cells that recently passed just to my west. Almost continuous flickering lightning and rumbling. Saw some mighty strobing CGs while peering bleary-eyed through the bedroom window.

Edit: superb photo Ian! I was too sleepy even to remember where I put my camera, let alone be able to use it.
