Stairrod rain. Amazing fork lightning and booming thunder. Roads flooding as drains can't cope.

There's flooding around my way - I drove along the centre-line of the main road several times through the deepest bits.

The drains are doubtless full of crud, which will make for a fun commute for others this morning! (And, if they don't clear them today, for this evening's rush hour too...)

Well what a night! Awoken at around 1:30 by thunder and then experienced almost continuous thunder and lightning for about an hour. Since then there has been periodic, mostly distant rumbling, with the odd burst of closer lightning strikes and whipcrack thunder, and spells of torrential rain. There is a very large cell to my west rumbling and flashing away as I type.

The sky's lit up west of my works at
04.00 this morning, the lightning was continual with no let up for over an hour with blue, green, purple and orange flashes, have'nt seen that in a long time, pity it wasn't directly overhead, someone had a good show though.

What a thunderstorm. The first one started booming in the distance at 1am and took a full hour to arrive. In that time the lightning rate was incredible. Essily one a second on its final approach. There was a gust front 15 minutes before the arrival followed by what can only be described as a tornadic wind as the main shaft of hail and rain arrived at 02.05hrs. Visibility fell to less than 100 metres. The peak rain rate of 443mm/hr was achieved at 02.16hrs. The temperature at the start of the storm was 23.7c. 32mm fell in the 30 minute storm.

Further thunder crashed around until 4am, rumbling away to the NE soon after 4.

Just had to choose my moment to put the rubbish out (if they come round). Was woken by first lighning at 2am and its been going on since then. In this instance, seems like the storms in the last hour have formed over Thames and pushed north.

Had 5mins of light rain. Couple of flashes in the distance and thunder so quiet a pin dropping was louder!!!

We quite often miss storms in this part of the world.

Maybe later???

Can barely see the lightning here as it's so misty and we seemed to have low cloud before. Thunder is soft and barely audible.A bit further west in Hudds/Halifax, seems to be far more intense. Another case of 'close, but no cigar'. Still this evening, huh?

It was still lightning in the distance when I went to bed following last night's storm and I awoke to a storm at 5.30 this morning.   It's still rumbling on and we have moderate steady rain.

It sounds like we have a lot of happy bunny's on here this morning and today is looking interesting for a good deal of us!

Storms gave us near misses to the right and the left last night, notably the excellent storm that passed to our west and ultimately got Rob in South Cambs. but we are looking good for a soaking now with active cells approaching from the south and thunder on and off.

Best way to describe the 'storm' in Thanet....you know that moment when you're in a hotel room, alone, and all you can here is the banging from the room next door....and you wish it'd either stop, or at least let you watch?....that one!

So for anyone who thinks Kent got pasted last night....some parts didn't!!

Looking at the radar, and this thread; how the hell have we had a dry night with not even a distant flicker of lightning or faintly audible rumble of thunder? 😲 It's like being in a parallel universe!

I dare say that this area of the country will score the warmest temperatures today if it stays dry.

Oh my, it appears, in a rather predictable fashion, that the line of storms has suddenly reintensified directly to the North of here. What have I done to deserve this? What can I do to please the weather gods?
