An isolated lone cell has popped up over the Strait of Dover where a flash of lightning has been observed, but it appeared to have disappeared as quickly as it appeared.

It is looking like a rather interesting journey from Le Havre to Calais for me in half an hour. Right into the Estofex Level 3 area and towards a rather active looking cell.

Well surprise, surprise. At the very last minute the graphics on the BBC video forecast seem to massively downgrade today's events for my little corner of Kent. Happens every time we're forecast interesting weather here. We always miss out!

Edit: This does though appear to be at odds with both the NMM and the NAE models which show pretty intense rainfall here.

Moderate rain with thunder in the air over here as the French MCS brushes close by. Certainly testing the FWS, that's for sure.

More action is now kicking off over the Brest peninsula. Hopefully these storms will develope more as they track North. These could be more promising for Central Southern England if they make it across the English Channel.

Wait... I think it's only the second one I've ever seen - and the first one in the height of summer!

Now, normally the safe bet is for everything to track more NE and have us gazing across the Channel like Meerkats watching a distant beast, but we sure are close this time so you never know!

I would imagine everyone is having a lay in ready for today's action

I concur with the above I'm not sure I have ever seen a Level 3 that close to our shores, although my weather geekyness has only been for a couple of years.

Some of my family are off to Torquay for a week today but I have to say the weather doesn't look good for them till the end of the week, Storms are forecast there for tomorrow, I was suppose to be going down to but work matters mean I have to wait till Monday/Tuesday to join them

Very latest assessment reduces widespread thundery threat SE England and downplays high convective gusts; hail expected small (sub 8mm).

Wow. I am so surprised, Not. Every interesting potential weather event gets massively downgraded at the last minute here. All winter it was the snow and all summer its been the thunderstorms

The storm we was monitoring last night formed on the west French coast and was in touching distance of SE England this morning. If the airflow hasn't altered course, the storms now brewing in Biscay are 150 miles or so more west, so hoping the same trajectory may bring SE England at least into play later.

I'm guessing the rain just appearing on the radar heading north is the storms heading our way?.UserPostedImage
