We need a new one!

As I just posted elsewhere, it is unusual to see Europe almost free of thunder

Only west of Ireland looks that interesting

Indeed, I've decided not to bother being on the lookout for any thundery-type activity tonight and instead concentrate on trying to get to sleep in a climate akin to South Korea.

Awoken by thunder at 0500, atmosphere showing instability and we're under the influence of a trough.

Nothing since that which woke me up, I feel rather disappointed now.

Even though it is clear and sunny overhead, I can see cumulus congestus bubbling up to my west. I think it'll be later on this morning/middle part of the day when things may take on something of a thundery flavour over here before the lot moves on out into the North Sea later on in the afternoon.
Hopefully that should have the effect of shifting some of this humidity.

Some amazing echoes right now to the south of London (heading NE'wards) - the 7:10 radar image shows two gridpoints with 150 to 200mm/hour rainfall rates. Heavy hail, perhaps?

EDIT: And the 7:05 image has 11 (count 'em, 11!) gridpoints that are off the scale, >250mm/hour rates. There'll be some interesting scenes there I'd imagine...

Don't think I'd have enjoyed an early take-off / landing at Gatwick this morning

A rumble of thunder here - and whoosh, the heavens open. Massive drops of rain here in Sittingbourne - and the storm's on its way to Sheppey.

A cumulonimbus (complete with anvil head) has taken over my western sky, I think it won't be long before I, too, will cop it.

Lots of thunder here, but only a brief moderate shower. All cleared away now as quickly as it arrived.

It's a case of now you see it now you don't this morning as the whole thing is moving along at a fair rate of knots giving very brief but heavy downpours with the cooler and fresher air racing in behind. Two claps here at 06:00 but the briefest of rain and nothing but misty merk here now.

That's one very electified storm the other side of the Solent from me... seeing 30 strikes per minute on the isleofweightweather feature.

I'd sure like to be back in Portsmouth right now... better still taking a trip east from there!

Hmmm, gathering momentum and growing up a bit now, verging on continuous thunder.
