Very heavy rain with occasional lightning. Not the intensity of strikes as last night, but rain is biblical.

From the lack of reports in this thread tonight I take it tonight's storms are a damp squib.

From the lack of reports in this thread tonight I take it tonight's storms are a damp squib. Not in the SE of England

Still early days for these storms. Its after midnight they really start to get going (though they already across parts of north east England).

After the earlier fun and games, looks like a good old fashioned convective mess is developing for the overnight period. Periods of heavy thundery rain in MetO speak, minus the thunder.

Forecast for storm around. The radar looks busy in patches. Quite sticky here.

Low and behold, the NAE does what it always does and completely downgrades the risk for south east England at the last minute - http://www.weatheronline.co.uk/cgi-bin/expertcharts?LANG=en&MENU=0000000000&CONT=ukuk&MODELL=nae&MODELLTYP=1&BASE=-&VAR=rsum&HH=24&ZOOM=0&ARCHIV=0&RES=0&WMO=&PERIOD=

You can see its not happening here. Split South and Niorth leaving the South East alone.

Think for the south east the main risk is stuff coming up from France reather than "home grown" stuff.

NMM model is much better than the NAE for us.

Localised storm over Chichester this morning - only one clap of thunder to go with some heavy rain though

Seems that the Folkestone Shield is being as effective as ever as it's actually brightening up here at the Harbour area, but apparently it's chucking it down over Dover - only six miles to my east.
