Windy with the risk of gales in the north and east, and temperatures below average. Through the weekend, remaining unsettled and windy with showers or periods of more prolonged rain and the risk of gales along exposed coasts, mainly in northwest. However, there will be some drier and brighter interludes. Temperatures recovering a little by day, but with some chilly dawns. Thereafter, probably remaining rather changeable with further spells of wet and windy weather at times, but with some drier and brighter interludes too. Temperatures near, or a little below, average.

A rather changeable weather pattern is the most probable scenario through the remainder of September and into October with all areas of the country seeing some spells of rain or showers, with some drier and brighter days in between. Temperatures generally near, or occasionally a little above,the seasonal norm.
