Just returned from a call out to a fire nr New Romney, and the rain started as soon as I made my way to the fire station to pick up our vehicle. Not intense rain, but heavy enough to soak me within a few minutes, whilst farting around with the compound gates! Stood down en-route, the soaked again farting around with compound gates on return. Meh!

Just seen a distant flash to my south west from what looks like a discrete cell over the Channel ahead of the main one.

Evening Steve [sn_bsmil]

Indeed, Ian, very muggy all day here too and remains so. Almost tropical feeling today in that its been raining with thick cloud, yet I've been driving around with the aircon on.

I'm straining so hard looking towards the south west and seeing those one-in-every-five-minutes distant flashes that I keep passing wind.

So many moans and no mention of the impressive rainfall In western Scotland which was heavy enough to trigger several landslides. Roads reopened now but the current rainfall has picked up again so hopefully some more comes down overnight

I see this big clump of stuff is heading up towards London but looks like skirting to the east mostly. I might see a flash or two as I leave work in the next half hour. Probably also get peed on on my bike

I think, had we continued to the Littlestone incident, we'd be dealing with a few very wet people right now - viscious looking storm over that way now, heading up towards the FWS.

JEEESUS! That was a cheeky little number, there was this one huge bolt that struck a buidling right in full view of my window! The gunshot sound that followed immediately shook the house.
And now the storm is retreating just as quick as it came. Made the hairs stand on the back of my neck! I couldn't get the camera out for it because of the pouring rain.
Can even smell the sulpher in the air.

Very impressive radar returns betweekn Ashford and Whitstable areas. As with WI's post above, lots of bursts of very heavy stuff here.

Well, that was a lively number, got 10.2 mm of rain in half an hour out of that one (I'm sure there should be much more than that, going to check my rain gauge for cobwebs or snails), complete with big flashes, loud tile-rattling thunder and of course, that close thunderbolt that could only have been a couple of hundreds of yards away (saw sparks come off as it hit a building).
It looks like there is another small cell coming our way, but otherwise I think that's our lot.
I was going to say that it was just like the one we had on July 21st but the difference with this one was the total lack of wind for it remained completely still and calm the whole time, even at the height of the storm with the torrential rain.
