Reading status update from after midnight, a friend down Devon way.

She stated constant lightning, she had never seen a strorm like it. It was also playing havoc with her electrics. She is originally from Pompey and would have experienced some violent storms here so when she says this was bad I start getting jealous!! 😞 lol 😃

Yes a nasty little storm affected Radstock too around 1-2 O'Clock with plenty of lightning and thunder with one absolutely deafening clap which sent car and burglar alarms a whirl around this estate. Anyone viewing my webcam would have had a wonderful pyrotechnic display. Quite impressive for October.

The cold front is about to go though here with some showery rain, some heavy on net radar to my NW.

Squally showers in parts of eastern England are already looking quite beefy. Could well be a slight thunder risk today in those areas.

Can see lightning flickering away harmlessly inside a row of cumulonimbus over the French coast. Did debate getting out there with the camera but the comfort and safety of my warm hobby was too much to tear myself away so I'll just spectate for now.

Recent downpours here and distant lightning flashes seen - most likely from a line of showers/storms stretching from around Colwyn Bay towards Liverpool, a short while ago.

Aberdeen airport reporting funnel cloud in the area.UserPostedImage

I suspect that was a mistranslation or a typo in the input data and the actual report was meant to have "VCFG" not "VCFC". In other words the conditions were more likely to indicate fog in the vicinity rather than a funnel cloud.

Here is the actual METAR in question

EGPD 170750Z VRB05KT 9999 3000W VCFC FEW005 SCT015 BKN026 09/08 Q1007 NOSIG

Visibility to the west is at 3000m which would also support this. However the biggest sign for me is that the report 30 minutes earlier was this

EGPD 170720Z 31004KT 9999 2500W VCFG SCT011 BKN022 08/08 Q1007 TEMPO 3000

Cheers for quick reply doc. Thought it was a bit strange as I have never seen a funnel cloud reported on a METAR in this country before.

Local forecasters warning of thunderstorms overnight. There was an impressive anvil over France when the last trough went through and we might see some thundery activity from the next trough coming up from the SW.
