Pretty lively storm passed through here half an hour ago, frequent lightning and loud thunder. Local weather site recorded a peak rain rate of 3.4mm/min, and it felt like that! Still rumbling now...

Inspection of the radar would suggest the nearest cells are towards the Hampshire area..surely these arent the ones providing the flickers ?

On a train currently heading towards Basingstoke. Passed through the line of intense rain just after Woking. Very unusual to clearly hear the sound of rain hammering against the train above the sound of the train itself travelling at full speed. Certainly a very intense downpour.

We had a short lived but quite impressive storm, moreso for the fact that it came in the hours of darkness. I can't remember the last time I saw nighttime lightning, that was probably the first time this decade.

I saw a few discharges of forked lightning whilst looking out of the window, all that I saw were cloud to cloud and none was within 2 miles (10 seconds) of me. The rain was heavy but nothing spectacular; it looks like the really heavy stuff organised itself to the east of here.

The wife texted to report a major downpour so it must have been pretty heavy for her to take note. Should be approaching me in London soon...

(PS I had a good night-time thunderstorm in Lisbon on Friday night, and a proper cloudburst on the Saturday too - fortunately while I was under cover having my lunch!)

Driving back from football tonight and on the A2 towards London you could clearly see the large storm over towards the South West of London. Huge clouds being light up with pink lightning. Lots of aircraft all over the sky to the East of London trying to avoid the storm. Feels like a summer night outside. I'm sitting indoors in just a pair of shorts. Great stuff!

I feel great! so maybe I might just

Lots or sirens can be heard at the moment, I would think there has probably been quite a few lightning strikes.. Lots of falk lightning for about an hour!!! By sirens I'm talking about emergency services not the car alarms and building alarms lol

The dip in our garden by the back door has about an inch if rain in it, this indicates lots of rain. It only ever floods during summer storms normally and even then it's a rare event. I reckon easily an inch has fallen in past hour.
