I reckon heavy rain maybe the main faeture of this.

And the old types of charts

Sky News is calling it Super Storm.

I find the whole media coverage of this, grotesque, IMO.

I never seen so much media hype and speculation over a possible gale event.

I wish we could go back 30 years ago with measured news coverage.

16 years ago http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/42518.stm

At the time, i was working as a paperboy - that morning was interesting - the woman killed on the wirral was killed no more than 200ft from my house.  Lots of downed trees, lots of fences blown across roads.

There was a wind recorded at Crosby of 114mph.  Incredible noise from the wind that night.  The wind roared louder than thunder - no joke.  I remember it scaring me and made sure i stayed away from windows.  There was a few loud bangs through the night from garden chairs ending up on the roof etc.  This all happened on low lying urban areas.  I cant remember a storm to blow like that since.  Infact - i remember watching the docs on the 1987 storm and wondering why our storm didnt get similar attention.

Wind has really picked up down here in the last hour or so, if it keeps increasing it could be a very rough night.

We are in a holiday cottage in Harbertonford in Devon, been pouring down for nearly 7 hours and the wind has just started to pick up, no measurements other than my ears and the conservatory roof!

Fergusson tweeting only an hour or two ago that this area could well see some of the worst weather, 80mph+.... Now saying we will miss the worst. Gusts to 50-60mph. Basically not a clue, like the rest of us. A fluid situation.

The heavy rain looks as though it is moving from West to East along the South as opposed to NE across the Midlands ....maybe it will shunt NWards later?

If I was in Norfolk, near the coast, I'd keep a very close eye on developments later this morning.

I'm calling it a night, although I still expect to be disturbed in the early hours (by the wind especially LOL).

It's finally starting to develop that classic structure on satellite now. The question is how quickly will it intensify - over the UK or as it enters the North Sea?

I'm guessing / hoping that something has gone wrong with the local weather station on St. Martins, Isles of Scilly - the 10min windspeed there is currently registering 86mph! With a top gust of 105mph!!

Still watching things here on the south coast. Rain contines to be heavy with a strong breeze some 5 miles from the coast.
