Just got online now. I think it's fair to say my area got it's monies worth. It commenced at about 7.15am for just over 30 minutes and I honestly reckon I saw gusts to 80 mph. Someone describing on here the October 1987 storm as "the trees looking as though they were moving like a rag doll",  was an excellent description.

There is some damage in my home area - it's not as bad as it might have been due to the short duration of things.

It was bad enough if you ask me. I thought things might have been overrated - but after what we had - I think the warnings were excellent.

Observations between 7.45 pm last night and 8.30 pm currently.

LAST NIGHT: Cloudy with heavy and persistent rain. Strong winds.
THIS MORNING: Very squally and stormy at 6.45 am then it became brighter with sunny spells and partial cloud cover and the wind very slowly abated during the course of the morning.

WINDS: Very strong south west last night which became storm force for a time at dawnbreak time. Then it slowly eased back to as strong west during the morning until settled down to as fresh in the afternoon.
AIR QUALITY: Superb once the cold front passed over us. Very clean and fresh.
VISIBILITY: Very poor at first then it became fair to good later on in the morning until it was excellent by the afternoon.
COMFORT FACTOR: Wet, rough and mild last night, then truly horrible and dangerous for a time first thing this morning. It then lead to a generally fresh and cool day, along with it become drier due to the fresh wind.
