Just had a quite ferocious downpour with a little hail mixed in for good measures. Considering how cold it is that downpour was impressive.

Its the interaction between the cold air and the warm waters of the English Channel that make the precipitation so intense. Theres a lot of energy in that water and it just needs the right combination of low pressure and cold upper air to kick off. I often see my heaviest rain and most impressive thundery activity in the autumn for that reason
