Sorry for a dumb question, but I've been trying to pick up some of your language for a while now... Whwre can I find a key to the symbols on Rob's last chart.  Obviously the stars = snow, but for example, what are the triangles, etc?

Yes, quite a wintry run at times (12z GFS op run). It will certainly be chilly for much of next week if the models are correct. The snow risk varies between models but there is a chance there will be some around at times. I do wonder if the "warmth" of the North Sea (given the time of year) will limit snowfall to areas with elevation or inland parts in the north.

Any way we look at it next week is looking colder than average.

After seeing the 12z Met Office run, our friends over at "the other place" are already starting to slit their wrists.

Can't they see the potential and the fact that it's November???

As Michael mentioned, the warmth of that body of water will be a blessing and a curse depending on your location. Coastal areas could see a lot of cold rain but at elevation, especially on the eastern side of the Pennines, it could get very snowy
