Having invested in a chainsaw and filling the log store, my worry is not actually being able to light a fire over Xmas without opening the windows. Late 80s re-visited, including the mix of The Cure, Blancmange, Weddoes and Inspirals on the docking station no doubt.

Still no signs of anything to end the unrelenting horror-show that December has been so far.

It is beyond tedious. Windy and/or cloudy constantly ensuring we can't even get a frost. Just had yet another disgustingly mild night with temps up to 10C and not only is it 2 weeks since the last frost but 2 weeks since the colder than average min. No end in sight to this appalling run with another mild min forecast tonight

Yet again I’m hearing the vile wind rattling away outside. Can’t recall the last time the wind even dropped light never mind calm. It’s just an awful month and having just seen the forecast for Monday looks set to get even worse. For the 2nd year in a row people look set to have their Christmas ruined by floods

It’s desperately poor when you can’t even get one day respite of calm frosty conditions and it is just unpleasant all the time

Yet people on here are constantly defending this type of weather, trying to pass it off as not too bad or normal for the time of year???

I detest Xmas at the best of times, but this horrible mild conveyor belt of raging westerlies driven along by a relentless jet stream is enough to make hibernation till spring an appealing option!! Truely hateful weather and for those of you whose hearts are not diminished by this sort of constant foul onslaught, then I have NO understanding of your head space. Maybe my past battles with depression make me susceptable to feeling down during this type of weather. I.e lack of sun; lack of brightness?

Rough time for the festivities more than likely. Cold westerly's  =Gales and possible flooding. It  is not going to be happy weather-wise.

This winter is making me reminisce about my snowless childhood... spraying snow from a can on the windows, cutting out snowflakes from pieces of paper and watching a sickeningly happy Cliff Richard sing Mistletoe & Wine. All whilst it is 8c and pouring down outside. Admittedly Cliff Richard is something we will all have to deal with every winter until the end of time.

It's gunk all the way but at least Christmas Day is looking seasonal. We might be able to wear Christmas jumpers without overheating and passing out!

There is an official reading of a 64 mph gust over the Eastern side of Kent last night - but seriously, just what IS it with stormy winds and the middle of the night?! And now there is the threat of flooding for parts of Kent today as rivers are already swollen up enough as it were.
I'm almost missing that quiet and dry winter we had a couple of years ago. If anything - and I never thought I'd hear myself say this - but I actually can't wait for that first bit of summer-like weather . . . assuming it doesn't go along in the same fashion as last year (remember how it took forever to get going last year at this end).
Never will I moan about our "boring Kent" climate again, I get the message that we can actually do proper weather after all.

Where was the 64mph btw, Manston? St Peters recorded 58.7mph, so that would be about right [sn_smile]

It's been pretty busy already, but today's focus is on Canterbury and Ashford, where the Stour and Great Stour are looking dodgy. Just trying to get some updates about levels, but the EA warnings are out of date [sn_clown]

Nothing of note on the 999s feed so far either, so fingers crossed....

Surely this thread needs reviving? It is disgusting outside! Lashing rain, wind, greyness, saturated ground, flooded fields and river valleys! Is this the winter weather we are going to have to put up with all the way throught till spring? To me this winter is turning into one of the worst since those horrible non events we had in the 2000's!!

Meanwhile the USA has record cold and snowfall, yet we are battered by the filfthy jet stream, day after day, after day, ad finitum!!

But of course, such as is the nature of today's weather, I'd get lulled into a false sense of security and get soaked wet and blown about when I pop out to get mother's prescriptions later on today.

Having these fine days in between the rough bits does make up for it, but it is true that it has been so windy of late - my least favourite weather type.

Terrible start to the winter - Only one frosty crisp morning of -2c on 2nd December.

No cold snap - one day max of 6c on 3rd December but if anything Christmas day was the coldest with a max of 8c but otherwise it's been a dire start....just wind and rain and guess what> MORE RAIN!! :-(

Daytime temps 5-10c nightime temps  4-7c constantly windy wet, the odd day when its grey and miserable. Horrid weather, very unseasonal and fast running out of weeks to get some decent cold crisp weather as it always seems to be pushed further and further back and downgraded. Winter just hasnt turned up.

Right this thread should come into its own now with the prospect of a (south) easterly at hand.

Dull and drizzly, with the temp stuck on +3c by day and night. Can't wait.
