This cold snap that hasn't even started yet looks like it'll only be a brief affair. Most disappointing.

Suprised this dropped off the first page after the last 24hr of outputs, will it wont it etc...

Maybe by this time tomorrow the outputs will give us some cold starting next weekend, if not the following week and then if not the week after that and so on till we enter Spring

All I'm hoping for is for some drier wether for now  I will put up with dull and grey aslong as its dry.

What with all this talk of further rainfalls and a continuation/possibly worsening of the current flooding as we go into next week if the models are anything to go by, this news article dated 17th Feb '12 seems such a long, long time ago: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-17078569

When the Spring thread opens I got a feeling we will all be complaining about lack of early warmth and sun due to large amounts of snow

Been a pretty sh*te winter so far for snow. The only thing to raise any interest has been the destructive power of the storms recently.

For me its been a shocking winter thus far   made even worse by the fact that I stupidly allowed myself yet again to get sucked up in this phantom easterly promise of a winter wonderland... why oh why did I not listen to the wise words of  The Met Office, Gibby, Brian Gaze et al who were all excercising caution especially when it comes to easterlies!  one year I may listen... however i doubt it and like many others I'll be back on the roller coaster ride, trying hard not to spit the dummy out when it all goes pear shaped... as it almost inevitably will!.. still wouldn't have it any other way.... and as an aside... the met office have, as usual, played a blinder...kept their counsel,  reflected  the possibilities, and exemplified professionalism of the highest order, unlike the usual suspects amongst the national press and some internet weatherforecasters. Still to get back on track... another few weeks of mild gunk to look forward to

Watched that BBC programme last night with the lovely Sophie Rayworth  about the recent shocking weather!! Not sure if many on here saw it?

But one thing's for sure winter 2013-14 really is turning into a pile of poo!

So much for today providing a more seasonable frosty respite. It's more of the same rank unpleasant windy low pressure crap we've been suffering for what seems like an eternity  In fact it's windier than it's been all week.

Temperature did drop below freezing briefly about midnight but most of the night was around 2C with no sign of any frost this morning due to the godawful wind that just won't let up. More vile filth in the outlook with some more soggy weather to look forward to this week apparently Never known anything so horrific in my entire life. Just a never ending nightmare

All winter it's only got 0.7C colder than the coldest temperature recorded in May 2011, one of the warmest springs on record. That just says it all but if that wasn't bad enough the temperature has varied by less than 10C since mid December. Just about the most tedious uninspring winter in history

Given the NWP output over the past couple of days, I think it's safe to assume January can be written off now. So that's December (when I want snow most of all) and January (on average the coldest month) ruined by mild & wet durge

Snowless winters are the norm down here,if we do ever get a decent snow event the rest of the uk is in the grips of a brutal freeze up eg Dec 2010.

i personally hate snow and cold and this winter is bang on,mild and wet.

Cold and snow lovers have been spoit in recent winters, especially last winter! and will most likley be dissapointed this winter.

Each day the sun is getting stronger and soon thoughts will be turning to spring

Richard, i wish I could teleport you down from Aberdeen to Chichester... A most glorious day today, unbroken sunshine, deep blue sky... And some warmth in the sun.... Saw several butterflies...here's my moan though, just to keep on topic... Its meant to be winter!

The only thing I can find to moan about is the wind and relentless rainfall. I can't complain about the mild temperatures- indeed we have only had a small handfull of grass frosts here with only the odd night dropping slightly below freezing too. If this carries on then we could end up with an extremely mild winter overall which just suits me and my winter heating bills fine!

Well, we're halfway through winter and it's been atrocious so far. Gales, wind, flooding, damage... but only two air frosts and not even a whiff of a flake of sleet, let alone snow. What a complete waste of 6 weeks of winter, the best 6 weeks at that. At least we coldies had Christmas to take our minds off the rubbish weather, until power cuts came along that is (or, in my case, gas cuts).

To top it off, the models have not only decided on the "average" option, but have then gone on to show mild weather (such as on Wednesday), whereas that wasn't even shown for a dozen runs in a row. It's bad enough that the cold chance has been missed, but for it to be even milder than any of the models suggested feels like a kick in the teeth. I've not seen a snowless winter this millennium but I wonder if this one will break that streak.

I'm surprised to see mildies such as the last couple of posters in here - feel free to start a gloating thread guys, this is the moaning thread, not the "ooh, isn't it fab" thread!

Yes - this winter is absolute RUBBISH

EVEN worse than the notorious late 1990s winter where had snow falling and lying slightly on the ground before melting very quickly

We have not even had 1 flake of snow all winter !!!!!

I was looking forward to waking up to a cold and crisp/clear and frosty morning but instead I wok up to 9c with cloud and spits of rain! - Got down to 0.5c last night with a frost, so coldest this year but yet not only we have failed to reach freezing or below so far but we haven't even had one frosty morning this year (Jan).

I will admit that it's getting a bit tedious now. With 39.7mm projected by GFS in the next 5 days here, it seems that the UK will remain an unusually boggy land for some time longer.

As a severe weather enthusiast, the highest river levels since 2002 and some interesting convective stuff last week has been enough to keep me sane.
