Just a normal breeze here in the East Midlands so far though it was gusty with the rain earlier on.

Oh goody (sarcasm).

Amber gale warning now in force for our region tomorrow. 80 - 90mph looks likely. Then a yellow gale warning in force for us on Christmas day, 70 - 80mph. And then a yellow gale warning again for Friday.

Central pressure around midnight Christmas day looks to be < 930hPa. Amazingly low.

Still, I guess we are used to it now

Things starting to ramp up here, there's a constant roar, heavy lashing rain and the prospect of worse to come.

a storm like we are currently having in the south is always going to seem worse and ultimately more destructive than say a similiar or worse storm in somewhere like n. w scotland. some of my relations used to live  up near stoer in n.w scotland and the houses were obviously built with more thought to severe gales , i.e.  sited in sheltered dips and solidly constructed. having said that there were also some mobile homes which would blow away if they were not roped and wired down to large rocks.

Still gusting to just under 70mph... Sustained winds however have dropped considerably though.

News report just said waves just to the east of IoW over 30ft high.

Widespread sever gales... Been blowing for hours now with torrential rain. Gusts 65-75mph been reported widespread..,, could be as mentioned up to 90mph later.

Needles on IoW will no doubt see 100mph gust later if it hasn't already done.

Has anybody got a link to current conditions at needles??

All eyes on the frontal wave now. Big area of rain getting into the south-west in association with this feature.

Worst places to be later appear to run along the south coast from East Hampshire to Kent but disruption could be pretty widespread across the south-east generally.

This seems to be the biggest storm so this Autumn/Winter in this part of Dorset. The rain was intense and almost tropical a few minutes ago and it looks like a lot more to come. Mrs N has friends over this evening and they arrived looking like they had been swimming...

The power was flickering this afternoon too and it doesn't look good in the run up to Christmas.
