Managed to get to sleep briefly but woken up again by incredible winds outside now. Not experienced winds this strong for a very long time.

Suprises me it's not higher if I'm honest, I'm up high so may be why I take that view but it's exceptionally windy here, sounds real fierce outside

I reckon we have hit the 70mph mark here in terms of gusts.

So... there's a marked dry wedge and then a streak of cloud shooting into it, with cloud tops cooling and a squall line intensifying very rapidly.

Something tells me that's not a good thing to see...?

The winds actually seemed to take a dip for a moment just now, and I can see that the original leading squall front is dieing a death down here.

Based on the above and what I can see here:

http://earth.nullschool.net/#current/wind/isobaric/1000hPa/orthographic=-18.78,52.92,1209

It seems to be that the strongest winds might be an hour or so away yet...?

Either that or the second squall line is seperated from the band of strongest winds... but in that case I'd have to question that isobaric wind data!

Ugh, can't sleep with all this noise and rattling...

Mean 44, gusting to 70 at the moment. My bedroom's taking the full brunt of this - oh, and the lights are flickering too. A truly horrendous night.

Feel sorry for anyone having to be out in it that's for sure.

Not what you expect to see on a travel report - a terrible Christmas looms for whoever's house it was:

"Sydenham Street Whitstable, both ways at Stream Walk
Kent - Sydenham Street in Whitstable closed around the Stream Walk junction, because of collapsed house."

The wind has finally blown itself out here and the rain has stopped at last. Just had a decco outside no damage to my property bar the felt roof on one of my sheds, thats completely gone and where it's gone I haven't a clue.

Calming down here now. The second squall line seems to be behind the frontal wave, and doesn't have the strong winds of the first one, although some of the gusts will probably still be notable. Really it's the extra rain that'll be most troublesome here.

Rain intensifying here now - I reckon it's the back edge - the remains of that squall line, still pretty gusty.  I hope  this is the last of it, it's calmer out to the west now,  I can then go and get some kip -  tried earlier but  the din was too loud  !
