Note the squall Birmingham to Exeter. Classic extreme end CF squall with a pre-frontal dip in intensity indicating a very sharp convective zone.
I suspect the high-end gusts will occur right on that squall line.

Greenwich Light vessel showing a constant mean wind of 59mph.

Wasn't expecting this. That squall line has really pepped things up here and it's not really tracking east, just holding a line just west of here. Bins everywhere outside, trees bowing in the wind, torrential horizontal rain.

number of trees down in Guernsey - unsurprising given the amount of wet weather recently.

Getting sporadic power drop-outs knocking my wifi out.
Still, probably the least of the issues in many areas tonight.

A few reports coming in from Twitter:

Part of the roof at Ashford International Railway Stn blown onto tracks

Train hit tree Tonbridge

Train hit tree St. Mary Cray

Roof collapsed Natwest Dartford

900 Passengers stuck on Spirit of Birtain...in the channel! Too dangerous to enter Dover before 6am 😮. This one hits home for me - I was stuck on the same ferry a few years back, for the same reason. It got a little scary when parts on the ceiling on board started falling down, every time a wave smashed against the ship!

Should also add that in addition to the immense wind strength (we're right under that slow moving squall now) it is also raining incredibly intensely. Like someone is emptying water from above in torrents.

I went to the back windows which are North Facing, put my head out and thought not too bad, went to the front window and jeez it almost blew me back and closed the window into my face
