Call me a pessimist but I think this winter will fall into the 1975 or 1989 catagory being very mild and almost snowless.

Such a winter is well over due and had to happen eventually.

We have been spoilt since 2009.

By this time next Month what will start to worry me is the start of Spring and a potential for a cold snap, When Spring arrives I want sun and the start of a slow warming up, I dread Cold Springs because they are a waste.

Just got a feeling that this Wet, Windy and Mild Winter may lead to a Cold Spring and in my opinion that's two seasons wasted

I think we have forgotten what winter can be like in the UK. The last 5-6 years have delivered some epic winter weather, and even bucked the trend for Wiltshire in giving us snow before Christmas. I never exepected snow before Jan in the old days, so I am not suprised at not seeing any so far. I always though that the last two weeks of jan and first two of feb were the sweet-spot for snow (the seas have cooled from their peak, the atlantic has wound down) and the days and sun are not yet too long and strong to ruin any settled snowfall.

So yes - feel free to moan, coloured as it by living through Dec 2010 - the coldest Dec in 100 years, but have a sense of perpective. There was another thread posted about historic snow data in the 19th century in Somerset - at least one of the winters had virtually no snowfall. This may yet be like that, but we really fo have plently of time to go before throwing in the towel.

And maybe some of us need to appreciate the benefits of not having the heating on 24 hours a day...

Moaning? No way.

Momorably we've seen:

Lashing rains and awesome gales.

Had dramatic showers/hail/thunder and showery skies.

Our river flood twice - something it rarely does once a decade.

The lanes potholed and even liquifying.

And it's hardly been cold enough, bar an odd hour or two,  to make outdoor work uncomfortable .

Well at least the winter so far has had a moblie Atlantic, with as today sunny days between the rain.My least favoutite type sof weather  are the non mobile variety.

Top of the list is HP  in th eAtalntic to the west and a cloudy air flow coming round from the northwestCloudy on the mild sid no precipitation -deadly boring.

The other static type is th eSouth esterly flow round a European HP.It  has the merit of being slightly cold but its also dry, cloudy without precipitation an can go on for days.

Still 6wweks mof winter left to collect a snowfall or two.

A snowless winter for much of lowland Britain so far with no end in sight of the wet and relatively mild conditions....Oh dear .

A few days of cold and snowy weather would be nice but the weather will do what it will do and I can take it or leave it these days in any case..so perhaps its not as bad as it could be. We were somewhat spoilt between Jan 2009 and April 2013 so I guess we must be grateful for the memories.

The window that was wide open for 'core winter' at the start of December is now already more than half way closed and inching closer and closer to the frame every day that passes.

The kids are asking 'where's the snow this year Daddy ?' Having been born in 2007 and 2009 they in a current generation that EXPECT snow every year.

They looked shocked when I tell them that some winters remain completely snowless here in Kent.

On the positive note.. the evenings are drawing out, the sun is climbing ever higher in the sky and there are daffodil shoots popping up in places.

Having had few frosts this winter I still can't quite think we will entirely get away with a snowless one, perhaps we may get a sprinkling or two in spring as has been common recently
