Cold with snow showers and windy, gusting over 50mph earlier. Snow cover down to sea level across the island as can be seen from the Portree webcam. Just a dusting up here where the wind is blowing gale force. Further lightning overnight as well.

Large accumulations on the mainland with the A82 snow gales closed between Glencoe and Tydrum (though I'm sure it will reopen shortly). A87 and A887 are also snowbound just now, though both are open.

Had a trip to Inverness yesterday and it was a slow, cautious drive back across the mountains with easily 10cms lying at Claunie (much more than on the drive to inverness in the morning) and about 4cms on the road. Only had the snow poles to go off but it was fine assuming you don't drive like a total pratt (as some inevitably do). There was hevay snow at Portree as well, a renowned snow hole it is

The snow clearing crews are just brilliant up here most of the time. As I thought, the A82 is now open after closing for a period overnight. Good work folks :-)
