As well as being dissapointing, I'm worried about the impact a virtually complete lack of frost and snow will have come spring and summer.... all those bugs etc. that would normally die off even in a winter like 1988/89 may have survived.... Will this cause a problem or I am I worrying about mothing? We're in uncharted territory here imo so really don't know. I suppose places like the Isles of Scilly and the west coast of Ireland must have quite a few winters with virtually no frost and they seem to get by!
Although I hate walking the dog when it's wet - which meant this winter really sucked, and frustrated not to see any snow whatsoever (I'm not counting the couple of sleety flakes I saw earlier this month), I have found this season much more interesting than previous Bartlett borefests that may have delivered the odd frosty early & late spell as the Euro-high pushed northwards. The storm of 23rd December was something to behold with its relentless ferocity, and making my way through floodwaters that nearly cut off my the village on the 7th February was an experience!
I can only imagine what the TWO equivalent in somewhere like Germany or Austria is like.... OK, they escaped the rain, but possibly the most boring, unexciting, unwintry, winter imaginable - now that really would suck imo.
