Hi,
Well its now above 16-18 deg c generally over a whole swathe from Southampton through to Cambridge. Probably be central London that gets the highest, but who would wants to be in the city on a day like this!
Problem is so many noisy lawn mowers out !

p.s snow in 3 weeks I reckon.

"In a building, I'd agree. Not outside. That's a midnight chart.

The ECM op (which was in the top 25% of EPS for high temps today) shows a high of 14C for Reading from that for Sunday.

(And yes, it's possible that 18C will be recorded next Sunday if a foehn effect sets in up north. It's also possible that a meteorite will crash into your house, or that I'll win the lottery. Lots of things are possible, it's whether they're likely that counts! )"

That was always a risky call.

I've already spotted 9 stations in the SE showing 18'C or above at 1300z according to weatheronline.

Brilliant and my hat goes off to AllyPally snowman for keeping his cool against obnoxious big headedness from those who think they know it all.. come on Retron the apology is about a few hours overdue as 18 degrees has been surpassed .let's not be shy here you were damn ignorant to the said forum member as for me I have a few ideas where I would love to shove all 18 of those degrees. Rant over !!

It peaked at 14.2 C here at my coastal locaton which was to be expected what with a gentle south breeze coming in from the Channel, but it still felt pleasantly mild in the sunshine and light wind all the same.

PS: I wouldn't be surprised if it is a couple of degrees warmer only a mile or two inland - about a ten minutes push bike ride away.

Well looks like we've hit 18c in London prob go over 20c somewhere today. It was always likely with this set up not sure why Retron couldn't see it.

To say "it was always likely" is just plain stupid, it was not likely in the slightest and in fact none of the models showed it being this warm! You were just fortunate that the models went the wrong way on it. If you'd actually given reasons why you expected it to be warm (rather than a simplistic extrapolation of 850s) I may have given you more credit, but you didn't.

For those who are interested in why this has happened, it's because the models underestimated the warmth of the lower layers of the atmosphere. When I was having that argument with you the models were showing 850s of 8 or 9, thicknesses lower than they are now and lower dewpoints than we're experiencing. The chart which you based your over-simplistic prediction on was an outlier amongst the ensembles - there was one ECM run which showed the 10C 850 isotherm grazing the UK. All the other models showed 850s remaining lower and, with it, the whole lower level of the atmosphere was forecast to be colder. In the end 850s reached 13C over the SE this morning, which is a remarkably poor performance by the models.

It just goes to show that sometimes you end up with something several degrees warmer than any members of the ensemble suite (across all the models) show, and just a few days out at that. It's irritating to see people like you getting plaudits for what was (at the time) a hopelessly unlikely situation - but there you go.

And yes, those are sour grapes before anyone says it! Enjoy your warmth folks, I'm off to sulk.

PS - don't bother replying vince, I won't be reading it. In fact, I won't even be on here for a few days, I'm that fed up with it.

Good call Ally Pally Snowman..

FWIW I think a few of us here felt that 18c was possible in this set up somewhere. Its a shame that Darren couldn't find it in himself shake your hand, move on and have a laugh about it.

It genuinely feels to me that we can no longer be encouraged discuss..and yes, sometimes ramp warm opportunities like we used to on this forum. Those that do these days are told they are over-exaggerating etc etc.

Loving this warm weather today. 15c on the SE coast in early March under unbroken sunshine is wonderful.

Make the most of it because no doubt winter will start around 20th March.

I guess it only rained a little bit so all in all better than much of the winter. The outlook is nice for many but up until now the warm and settled conditions have not made it to many areas. Hence some may not like today's weather. 😄

It was however a very mild/warm day for many others and yes I would have loved that. 👍

Still, after tonight's hill snow things should turn a bit more springlike 😛
