I hope the storms don't arrive early. I'm in work until 6am and I look daft getting out my seat every few minutes like last night trying to watch. Also our building is soundproofed so rubbish for hearing thunder.  The initial charts suggested around 5am-6am for here which would be better as that is when I will be driving back.

Big storm just SSE of Rouen tracking NNE.

It's not showing up at at all on the 7pm forecasted radar, just shows how inaccurate they are in this kind of setup.

The MetO update along with most charts don't tally up with that esto thingy warning. Everything else suggests more central areas, although I guess it's almost impossible to nail a situation like this totally.

Is this company the one that issues tornado watches every time the sun goes behind a cloud, or is that another I'm thinking of?

BBC weather; violent thunderstorms developing later this evening and moving northward with torrential downpours in places.

Storms easing for a time tomorrow morning before more heavy storms develop in the afternoon though some uncertainty where they'll be.

Re the predictive radar stuff, take them as a very rough guide only. Check out the MetO video from eearlier today where they explain that their predicted storm distrubtions for tonight and tomorrow are basically best guesses.

Two large cells now SW of Rouen on the 18:30 radar, looks like an MCS.

Best lightning display in years and bang on for my thoughts on the matter for once

Flash rates reached 30 per minute so getting into the strobe category.

Rain sporadic and torrential but the event promised to be fairly brief and so it proved.

Storms exiting France appear to headed straight for Ian in Folkestone. Will there be a wet underpants photo -shoot, lit by lightening?
Only kidding Ian!

The storms do though appear to be headed your way. Will the FWS hold?

The storms that have entered the Channel seem to be intensifying, or is it just wishful thinking?

Some insane levels of thunderstorm activity around Le Harve and Rouen, havn't seen anything quite like it, very bright echoes on the rainfall radar.

Shame theres no webcam but I bet it's spectacular, hopefully will hit Norwich later, although it's the cells to the west that are lining up to hit the UK

No sign of a reduction in strength as the Rouen storms make a break for it into the Channel. Will they make it to Kent intact? Maybe the Kentish folk would rather they didn't, as they are monsters.

Have to say that the lightning strike rate in that system is very, very impressive for something knocking on the door of our shores.

The lightning storm was a little nervy, every hair on the body was continuesly stood up, like I was hooked up to a vandergraph 😀

But that storm in France... I reckon some places might see as much as 5-6 inches in an hour. Insane.

Fully-fledged supercell on the way toward a brush with the far SE.

That should provide quite a light show as the evening daylight fades.

The MCS looks like being an entirely seperate convective system, just starting to develop in the region of La Rochelle from the looks of things.

A supercell could also form along the way, but those things prefer to be isolated from other convective systems, with a single focus area for uplifting becoming larger and larger, producing the exceptionally high cloud tops currently visible on satellite imagery, and hence the frenzied lightning activity.
